Paramount’s latest Trek push leans hard on its most beloved bond. For 60 years, fans have debated Kirk and Spock’s unspoken layers. The 2009 Abrams film reworked their dynamic in an alternate timeline. Now Strange New Worlds chases the original series’ canonical roots.
The full Season 4 trailer dropped after an April 25 teaser. It leans into 1960s-style Trek weirdness, with aliens and phaser battles. The season’s tagline teases more TOS prequel canon than ever. The trailer opens with Spock telling Kirk, “I have many things I want to talk about.”
SNW’s Kirk and Spock first met in Season 2, Episode 6. Season 3’s finale used a pivotal mindmeld to cement their bond. The trailer also teases a Uhura and Scotty kiss, a canon callback. Star Trek V’s brainwashed romance counts as official lore, too.
Season 4 debuts July 23 on Paramount+, with 10 weekly Thursday episodes. It’s the penultimate season, followed by a 6-episode final run in 2027. All versions of Star Trek currently stream on Paramount+. This arc is a play to retain the platform’s Trek-focused subscriber base. Fans have criticized past reboots for ignoring core canon rules.
In the end, Trek fans hold the real power here. If Paramount botches this bromance, they’ll lose a dedicated, long-standing fan base.
