(SeaPRwire) – In recent years, the most notable critical triumphs for Marvel Studios have shifted away from high-stakes global threats toward more grounded, personal stories like last year’s Thunderbolts*. There is a clear resurgence of interest in the street-level side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; ever since Matt Murdock’s cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences have been eager to see more of Hell’s Kitchen. This demand was met with Daredevil: Born Again, a series that significantly altered the landscape by electing Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) as mayor. While such a development should have massive implications for the broader MCU, the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day suggests those effects might be minimal.
Despite being part of an interconnected world, Born Again often feels as though it exists in isolation. However, the news that the other Defenders will return in the third season makes the setting feel more expansive—and now, a cast member has inadvertently shared a major spoiler for that season, potentially hinting at a Matt Murdock appearance in a surprising location.

Over the weekend, Mike Colter posted a photo on Instagram from the Season 3 set, appearing alongside Krysten Ritter, Finn Jones, and Charlie Cox. Notably, Cox is seen wearing a prison jumpsuit, seemingly confirming that the second season of the revival will end with his character behind bars. This situation mirrors several comic book storylines, such as Ed Brubaker’s 2006 arc The Devil in Cell Block D—where Matt is arrested following an identity leak—and Chip Zdarsky’s 2021 story Doing Time, in which Matt turns himself in after an accidental death.
While this reveal is a major plot point for Born Again season 3, it could also have a significant impact on Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film’s initial trailer shows Spider-Man battling the Hand, a mystical ninja organization that has long been an enemy of Daredevil, Wolverine, and the Punisher. One of these fight scenes takes place inside a prison, leading to speculation that Peter Parker might be visiting an incarcerated Matt Murdock.

At this point, Peter is unaware that his former lawyer is a vigilante, but if Matt’s identity is exposed in the second season, that secret won’t last long. Peter might seek out Matt for guidance regarding his own secret identity or to ask about the Punisher’s involvement in the events of Brand New Day. Additionally, the return of the Hand is a major development; in the comics, both Daredevil and the Punisher have led the group at different times, eventually falling under the influence of the demonic entity known as the Beast.
With rumors circulating about a potential solo film for Charlie Cox, Brand New Day could serve as a precursor to an adaptation of Shadowland, the story where Matt takes control of the Hand. Regardless of the outcome, a meeting between Spider-Man and Daredevil will have lasting effects on both heroes, particularly if Matt remains imprisoned by the end of the season.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for theatrical release on July 31st, 2026.
