(SeaPRwire) –   Good Omens is set to return for one last outing. The Amazon Prime Video series, which stars Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley, originally expanded a single book into two seasons. However, due to real-life controversies surrounding showrunner Neil Gaiman, he has stepped away from the production, and the third season has been condensed into a single feature-length finale.

While the final season is shorter, it appears to be packed with action. The first trailer shows that the Second Coming is beginning, but there is a significant issue: Heaven cannot find Jesus. The new trailer is available to watch below.

The Second Coming has been a rumored plot point for the final season for some time. It was reportedly the intended subject of a sequel novel by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett that was never written. A teaser released by Amazon earlier this month, showing a man traveling to Earth via elevator, led many fans to suspect he was Jesus.

This has now been confirmed—the character is Jesus, and Aziraphale and Crowley must locate him. The two remain estranged following the Season 2 finale, where Aziraphale chose a role in Heaven over his life with Crowley. This choice was a major blow to fans who had watched their relationship develop over thousands of years. After stopping the apocalypse in Season 1 and finding a deeper connection in Season 2, it appeared they might follow the example of Gabriel and Beelzebub, who left their respective realms together. Instead, Aziraphale stayed behind to manage the Second Coming.

The trailer confirms the arrival of the Second Coming and provides other details, including Crowley’s Bentley traveling at supernatural speeds, Muriel hunting for The Book of Life, and the forces of Hell rejoicing over Jesus’ disappearance.

However, the storyline feels somewhat repetitive. The concept of a “Heavenly fugitive” is very similar to the Season 2 plot involving an amnesiac Gabriel (Jon Hamm). It remains to be seen if this final chapter will simply revisit old ground.

Regardless of the plot, the show must now conclude its entire story in approximately 90 minutes. Whether it can successfully wrap everything up is unclear from the trailer, but the wait is nearly over.

Good Omens Season 3 premieres May 13 on Amazon Prime Video.
