The controversial social media influencers remain behind bars after a Miami federal court hearing on Monday, where their battle against UK extradition on charges of rape and human trafficking formally began. U.S. Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis made it clear the brothers were held under a UK provisional arrest warrant, with extradition proceedings already underway. Andrew, 39, faces seven more rape counts, sex trafficking, and child indecency charges. Tristan, 38, is hit with two rape counts and three trafficking-related charges. Combined with prior allegations, the total charges against them now stand at 59, spanning from 2010 to 2017. Malcolm McHaffie of the Crown Prosecution Service emphasized the intent to prosecute for serious offenses.
The Tates, holding dual US and UK citizenship, deny all wrongdoing. They also face separate investigations in Romania, where authorities have been probing since December 2022. Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire major crime unit reaffirmed zero tolerance for male violence against women, vowing to support victims.
Beyond the criminal charges, Andrew faces a civil trial in the UK over allegations of physical and sexual abuse by four women, who claim incidents between 2013 and 2015. His legal team argues the claims are false and consensual.
