FILIPINOS looking to vote beginning the October 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will get the opportunity to register for a period of six months, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.

In a press briefing, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the voter registration period will run from the last week of November 2022 up to the last week of May 2023.

“This will be a six-month voter registration program,” said Garcia.

He said this would mean that millions would be added to the more than 67 million regular and over 24 million youth voters.

“We are anticipating registering and reactivating five million more regular and youth voters,” said Garcia.

In order to reach their target numbers, the poll chief asked local officials to help encourage the public to get registered as voters.

“To our barangay and SK officials, we hope you can help us in registering as many voters as possible through widespread voters information campaign,” said Garcia.

Earlier, the Comelec announced its plan to resume voter registration activities in the last week of November 2022 with the December 2022 BSKE postponed. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
