THE chief of police of San Miguel, Bulacan was killed during the conduct of a followup operation against robbery suspects on Saturday evening, March 25, 2023.

In a report from the Central Luzon Police Regional Office (PRO 3), it said Lieutenant Colonel Marlon Serna joined the operation around 9:30 p.m. against two unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects who were involved in a robbery incident in Barangay San Juan.

Upon reaching the dark portion of Barangay Bohol na Mangga, San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Serna and his team chanced upon the two alleged suspects who opened fire on the police, hitting the police official on his head.

Serna was rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead.

Central Luzon Police Director Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr. has ordered Bulacan Police Provincial Director Colonel Relly Arnedo to conduct an in-depth and thorough investigation to fast-track the solution to Serna’s murder especially the arrest of the suspects.

“This is unfortunate news for us as one of our members was killed in line with our diligent efforts to arrest lawless elements and while nothing can make up for his loss, along with our deepest condolences, we assure his bereaved family that they will get the necessary benefits that are due for them. Still, we are committed in our fight against all forms of criminality and we will continue to be relentless in our campaign at all costs,” said Hidalgo.

Hidalgo said the Department of Interior and Local Government will give P500,000 reward, on top of the P300,000 from the PRO 3 to anyone who could provide information and help identify the suspects. (SunStar Philippines)
