While Steven Spielberg is renowned as a master of genre filmmaking, his recent work has leaned towards historical dramas such as Lincoln, The Fabelmans, and his grand adaptation of West Side Story. His last foray into science fiction was in 2018 with Ready Player One. However, Spielberg is set to return to the sci-fi genre in 2026 with Disclosure Day, a film centered on the decision to inform Earth’s population about a potential alien invasion. With its premiere just months away, the movie’s Super Bowl commercial has finally offered a glimpse of the aliens. You can view the teaser below:
Penned by David Koepp, the screenwriter behind Jurassic Park, Disclosure Day features a cast including Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, and Colman Domingo. Although details about the movie remain scarce, the recent trailer provided some insight. It depicted Blunt as a Kansas City newscaster preparing to deliver a weather report before unexpectedly speaking in an alien language.
In the trailer, Josh O’Connor’s character is questioned about whether the aliens are human. His response, “They are not,” suggests they might resemble the stag and bird figures that have appeared in both trailers, or potentially be shapeshifters, as hinted at in another scene. The teaser also incorporates a classic alien invasion element with a flying saucer emerging from the clouds. While many questions remain unanswered, the trailer clearly indicates a complex narrative.

Spielberg himself shared his thoughts on the new film in a video released on Monday. He stated, “When I was just a little kid, I remember developing a real curiosity about the sky at night and what’s happening up there. And also, not the possibility, but the guarantee that there is life off this planet.”
Koepp’s screenplay is based on an original concept by Spielberg, indicating this is a personal project for the director. Spielberg commented, “People’s questions about what is not only going on in our skies, but what is going on in our worlds, in our realities has reached a critical mass.” He added that Disclosure Day aims to address these questions: if answers exist regarding these phenomena, how can they be justified in being withheld?
It is somewhat unusual for a second trailer to be released without definitive details about the appearance of the significant, threatening invasion. However, Spielberg is a director known for his strategic reveals. It appears audiences may need to wait for the release of Disclosure Day to fully understand the unfolding events.
