IRONDALE, Ala., Dec. 12, 2025 — EWTN Global Catholic Network announces that longtime media executive and broadcaster Doug Keck has been presented with the 2025 Mother Angelica Award, the Network’s most prestigious honor. The award acknowledges his many years of service, steadfast leadership, and unwavering dedication to the evangelization mission.
After retiring from his administrative roles as President and Chief Operating Officer in June 2025, Keck took on the honorary role of President Emeritus. He remains an on-air presence, hosting EWTN Bookmark and co-hosting Father Spitzer’s Universe.
The presentation occurred during a special global EWTN broadcast on Friday, Dec. 12 at 8pm ET, which honored Keck’s 29-year tenure at the Network and his crucial part in building it into an international Catholic media force.
“On behalf of the worldwide EWTN family, I thank Doug for always prioritizing our mission and never diluting the Gospel’s truth for popularity,” stated Michael P. Warsaw, EWTN Chairman & CEO. “His efforts and commitment have strengthened EWTN. He richly deserves this award that celebrates Mother Angelica’s enduring legacy.”
Celebrating a Legacy of Evangelization
Doug Keck began at EWTN in 1996, following a cable television career in New York where he aided the expansion of networks like Sports Channel, Bravo, AMC, and CNBC. During his time at EWTN, he was instrumental in creating and introducing several key programs, such as Life on the Rock, The Journey Home, EWTN Bookmark, and The World Over, significantly contributing to the Network’s growth across TV, radio, and digital media.
He was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2009, and became President and COO in 2013. His guidance helped EWTN expand into the world’s largest Catholic media entity, serving millions of homes globally with multi-lingual content on diverse platforms.
“Mother Angelica taught that our duty is to saturate the world with the truth of the Gospel and the Church. That has always been EWTN’s foremost goal, and I am honored to have participated in it with many devoted colleagues,” Keck remarked.
He reflected on God’s dramatic call away from his secular media work—which included involvement with The Playboy Channel’s launch—to helping broadcast Pope John Paul II and three subsequent popes. Keck encourages all Catholics to ponder how God may be inviting them to use their gifts for the Gospel.
“That is our true calling,” he said. “You should not hide your gifts. You offer your talents to Him.”
Keck now stands among an esteemed list of past honorees who, similar to Mother Angelica, have shown a deep dedication to proclaiming Christ’s message globally. This group includes Archbishop Emeritus of Philadelphia Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.; former New Orleans Saints receiver and football icon Danny Abramowicz, who evangelizes young men in his post-football career; and Curtis and Michael Ann Martin, co-founders of the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS).
