(SeaPRwire) – Time behaves in unusual ways within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to the time travel enabled by the quantum realm, frequent time jumps and extended production schedules mean that MCU timelines often diverge from real-world chronology. This can make it challenging to determine when specific projects take place relative to one another—even when they share locations or characters.
Recently, details about the setting of the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again have emerged, and while not definitive, they add support to a growing fan theory suggesting viewers will encounter Matt Murdock before the third season premieres on Disney+.

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, recently told ScreenRant there will be a gap between the second and third seasons of Daredevil: Born Again. “There will be a small time jump, but it’s not too significant. It’s not like we’re jumping ahead five years or anything,” he explained. “We’re probably jumping ahead a year or so, similar to the actual interval between television seasons. And yes, Fisk’s exile is its own story. So it’s exciting to see these two characters develop separately in Season 3.”
As Winderbaum noted, Wilson Fisk is now enjoying life on his private island after being removed from his role as mayor, meaning he likely won’t pose an immediate threat soon. Similarly, Matt Murdock remains imprisoned following his arrest in the season finale, effectively removing both key figures from New York’s ongoing narrative for the time being.
This opens the door for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which follows Peter Parker as he navigates life under new circumstances and continues his work as a vigilante. Given that Brand New Day is confirmed to take place after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 (as shown in the trailer) and appears to precede Season 3 (based on this statement), could the Spider-Man film actually function as prologue or setup for the next installment?

This wouldn’t be unprecedented. The previous Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, included a cameo by Matt Murdock as Peter’s lawyer, proving such crossovers are feasible. From a storytelling perspective, it also makes sense: the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 dramatically reshaped the MCU’s New York City by eliminating Wilson Fisk, who had been a persistent presence since Hawkeye in 2021. If Spider-Man intends to operate again in this revised version of the city, consulting with the last openly active vigilante in New York seems logical.
Things grow more complex with Punisher, who did not appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 but is set to feature in his own standalone special before showing up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If Punisher can bridge both Daredevil’s and Spider-Man’s worlds, why shouldn’t other characters do the same?
While it’s reassuring to know that Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 won’t begin immediately after the events of Season 2, it raises another concern: Will fans really need to wait nearly a full year before seeing their favorite hero return?
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently available on Disney+.
