(SeaPRwire) – A significant strength of Daredevil: Born Again across its two seasons thus far is its ability to cleverly reimagine comic storylines while also introducing original elements. Season 1 commenced with a compelling and emotionally taxing adaptation of The Trial of the Century, a notable arc from Brian Michael Bendis’s early 2000s Daredevil run. The repercussions of this storyline directly paved the way for the show’s adaptation of Chip Zdarsky’s Mayor Fisk arc. Now, three episodes into Season 2, it appears the series is preparing to adapt another significant contribution from Bendis to the character’s lore.
Warning! Spoilers follow for Daredevil Born Again Season 2, Episodes 2-3!
In Season 1 of Born Again, Hector Ayala, the original White Tiger vigilante, was killed by the same corrupt police officers who would later form Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force. This occurred on the very night of his release from custody, after Matt had cleared him of a false murder charge. Hector’s niece, Angela Del Toro, correctly suspects who murdered her uncle. After being rescued from the serial killer Muse by Daredevil, she becomes even more convinced of the necessity of costumed heroes. In the most recent episode, we see the outcome of this conviction: having taken possession of her uncle’s mystical amulet, it is evident that Angela is being positioned to become the next White Tiger, albeit with notable deviations from her comic book origin.
Who is Angela Del Toro in the Comics?

Angela del Toro first appeared in Daredevil Volume 2 Issue #58. In the comics, she is an FBI agent tasked with investigating Matt Murdock after his secret identity is exposed. She inherits Hector Ayala’s amulet—which in the comics is a relic from the mythical city of K’un-L’un, the home of Iron Fist—following his suicide by cop after being found guilty. After some encouragement from Matt, she decides to wear it, initially to understand the motivations behind vigilantism. However, after successfully thwarting a robbery and witnessing the victim’s gratitude, Angela fully embraces the role of the new White Tiger and frequently collaborates with Daredevil, Iron Fist, and even Spider-Man.
There is a clear divergence from the comics in that the on-screen Angela Del Toro is neither an FBI agent nor as old. However, the show has subtly paid homage to her comic origin in a reworked manner. While Matt persuades her to become the White Tiger in the comics, in the TV series, Angela is the one who encourages Matt to don the mask again, reminding him of the true purpose of his vigilantism and its impact on the people he helps.
Could White Tiger Join The Young Avengers?

Although Angela’s age in the series differs from her comic counterpart, this could be an advantage for the MCU’s future. There is another White Tiger after Angela; Ava Ayala, Hector’s younger sister, assumed the mantle in 2011 as part of the short-lived Avengers Academy series, which focused on a group of young heroes in training. It is highly probable that the writing team has merged Angela and Ava into a single character. While there isn’t a direct equivalent to Avengers Academy currently, several members of the Young Avengers are already present in the MCU. It’s conceivable that the MCU’s version of Angela could become one of them.
For now, it is evident that Angela is wearing her uncle’s amulet and contemplating the possibility of becoming a vigilante. This decision would undoubtedly place her in direct opposition to Wilson Fisk’s ruthless AVTF, but this scenario could be the perfect catalyst for White Tiger’s first official team-up with the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. The future of Angela’s role, and whether she will appear outside of Daredevil, remains to be seen. However, it is clear she will play a part in Wilson Fisk’s downfall and, hopefully, will help bring her uncle’s murderers to justice.
