(SeaPRwire) – Amazon Prime Video has put in significant effort to find its own Game of Thrones or Stranger Things. Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ranks among the most expensive TV shows ever made, and the streamer has picked up countless other book series for adaptation—including Mike Flanagan’s highly anticipated take on the Dark Tower novels.
But even as it continues searching for the next big hit, not every unsuccessful idea is doomed. The Wheel of Time—one of the most ambitious fantasy series in recent memory—was canceled after Season 3, yet its story will continue through an animated series and more spinoff projects.
Per Variety, several new projects based on Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time book series are in the works, including an animated series, films, and video games. This announcement comes from a partnership between iwot Studios and League of Legends’ Thomas Vu.

These projects, which have no distributor attached, are reportedly completely separate from the animated film, live-action film, and high-profile AAA video game currently being developed via a partnership with VFX company Framestorer—to create “an AI-enabled platform that offers brands asset management tools to ease collaboration on projects across multiple platforms.” So while Amazon may not be involved in the Wheel of Time IP, the universe will independently expand further than ever before, spanning multiple movies, video games, and other spinoffs.
The animated series is especially intriguing, as animated spinoffs of canceled shows could become a new trend in streaming now that Netflix is following Stranger Things’ final season with Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85. It’s possible Amazon Prime Video could do the same and pick up some of these spinoffs, regardless of their canon links to the canceled series.

So while The Wheel of Time series may have ended, it only boosted interest in its fantasy world beyond the existing book fandom. Striking while the iron is hot to release more projects is certainly smart—but with multiple movies, video games, and an animated series in development, could this idea be stretched too thin?
Maybe this fantasy world is large enough for everything in development right now, but it’ll still be interesting to see if all these projects make it to completion—especially since some controversially incorporate AI.
The Wheel of Time Seasons 1-3 are streaming on Prime Video.
