(SeaPRwire) – Oz Perkins has long been considered horror royalty, being the son of Anthony Perkins, who famously played Norman Bates in Psycho. However, in 2024 he firmly established himself as a major force in modern horror with Longlegs, a terrifying story involving ritualistic murder and occult ties. The film featured a particularly remarkable performance by Nicolas Cage, who merged his distinctive acting approach with extensive pale facial prosthetics.
Following that success, Perkins released two additional horror films, The Monkey and Keeper, in the same year—both with the independent distributor NEON, which aided in making his projects sleeper hits. He is now making a return to the Longlegs world, though not with a direct sequel and not with the studio that supported his work in recent years.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Oz Perkins and Nicolas Cage are teaming up again for a new film connected to Longlegs. Unlike the original, which was distributed by NEON, this project will be managed by Paramount. Perkins is set to once again write, direct, and produce the film, with Cage starring and also serving as a producer.
Despite Cage’s starring role, the new movie is not necessarily a sequel. This is particularly evident given that the character Dale Cobble, also known as Longlegs, meets his end by fatally hitting his head on a table in the first film. Instead, the project is described as being “set in the Longlegs universe,” leaving open the possibility of it being a prequel or a spinoff.

Given the narrative, a compelling option would be for Cage to portray a completely different character. Since his appearance in Longlegs was so heavily altered, any physical similarity would not be a problem. This strategy is not unprecedented for contemporary horror series; the M3GAN franchise, for example, planned to expand with an erotic thriller titled Soulm8te, though that project was removed from the release calendar after M3GAN 2.0 failed to meet box office expectations.
By potentially bypassing a conventional sequel, the Longlegs franchise might avoid a similar pitfall and instead adopt a semi-anthology structure. While the continuation of this “cinematic universe” without Maika Monroe’s FBI Agent Lee Harker is somewhat disappointing, Cage’s pale-faced villain was undoubtedly the film’s breakout character. This could mark the beginning of a significant new horror franchise—a collection of eerie mysteries linked by a common thread: Nicolas Cage portraying bizarre-looking characters, a specialty of his. Combined with Oz Perkins’ directorial style and his productive 2025, this collaboration could be the start of a highly successful partnership.
Longlegs is now streaming on Hulu.
