CMS (867.HK/8A8.SG): Self-Developed INHBE-Targeting siRNA Drug Received IND Approval for Overweight/Obesity

SHENZHEN, CHINA, Mar 5, 2026 – (ACN Newswire) – China Medical System Holdings Limited (“CMS” or the “Group”) is pleased to announce that self-developed innovative drug INHBE-targeting small nucleic acid drug CMS-D008 injection (“CMS-D008”) received the Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice issued by National Medical Products Administration (“NMPA”) on 4 March 2026. The NMPA has approved the conduct of clinical trials of CMS-D008 injection for overweight or obese individuals. About CMS-D008 CMS-D008 is a novel siRNA therapy administered by subcutaneous injection. CMS-D008 targets and reduces the hepatic expression of the inhibin subunit beta E (INHBE) gene and lowers the level of Activin E protein encoded by INHBE, which blocks Activin E-ALK7 signaling and reduces fat accumulation effectively. Preclinical studies suggested that CMS-D008 efficiently and sustainably suppressed INHBE expression. In the diet-induced obesity model, CMS-D008 enhanced weight loss by reducing fat mass while retaining lean mass with a good safety profile. It demonstrates potentially better prospects for high-quality, long-term weight loss that boosts fat-specific loss while preserving muscle mass. In the future, it may be developed for the treatment of overweight/obesity, abdominal obesity, and related metabolic diseases. Fat Loss, muscle preserved: a potentially better therapeutic option for overweight/obesity Overweight or obesity is a chronic, progressive, relapsing disease characterized by excessive accumulation or abnormal distribution or function of body fat[1]. World Obesity Atlas 2025 Report projected that the global proportion of overweight and obese adults will rise to 50%, with nearly 3 billion adults impacted by high body mass index (BMI), and the population of adults who are overweight or obese in China is projected to reach 515 million by 2030[2]. Existing GLP-1RAs have been proven to be effective for the treatment of overweight and obesity. The main actions of GLP-1RAs are to suppress appetite by acting on the central nervous system and to delay gastric emptying[3]. INHBE’s novel mechanism of action differs from GLP-1RAs. INHBE is identified through genome-wide association studies. Populations with loss of function in INHBE are associated with favorable fat distribution and beneficial metabolic characteristics[4]. Targeted inhibition of INHBE might be more conducive for long-term weight management at the genetic level with precisely lower visceral fat and favorable metabolic profiles. CMS-D008 teams up with CMS-D005: highly effective weight loss plus long-term maintenance, building a more comprehensive weight-loss solution CMS-D008 will synergize with CMS-D005, a self-developed innovative drug currently in clinical development. CMS-D008 reduces fat without sacrificing muscle mass by precisely inhibiting INHBE gene expression; while CMS-D005, as a GLP-1R/GCGR dual agonist, can effectively reduce liver fat while losing weight. The synergy between these two drugs will achieve highly effective weight loss benefits and long-term maintenance of results, jointly enhancing the Group’s R&D capabilities and product competitiveness in the field of obesity/metabolic treatment. Furthermore, leveraging the Group’s mature network resources in the field of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, the drug’s R&D and commercialization process will be accelerated, providing patients with more comprehensive and innovative treatment options. The Group is actively preparing to initiate relevant clinical trials and strives to launch the Product as soon as possible. A Decade Later, a Star Trek Era Might End Abruptly

Paramount+Even for those with only a passing interest in behind-the-scenes Hollywood updates, it’s clear that Paramount is undergoing significant changes right now. And the parent company, which holds the rights to the Star Trek franchise, is almost certainly moving toward some form of shift. Whether this shift is radical remains to be seen, but one fact stands: For the first time since , there are no new Star Trek TV series in immediate production following the conclusion of Season 2. At least none that have been publicly announced. As noted by , the completion of filming on Starfleet Academy Season 2 marks an unusual point in modern Star Trek production history. Discovery was announced in 2016, with production beginning that same year, a decade ago. Discovery eventually debuted on CBS All-Access (now Paramount+) in 2017, and since then, there has often been—if not one—multiple Star Trek series in production. Just three years ago, in 2023, fans were celebrating the success of , the highlights of and Season 4 of Lower Decks. By 2024 and 2025, the franchise began to contract, with the finales of and both airing that year, along with the , which also appeared to signal the end of that series.Paul Giamatti and Holly Hunter at the premiere of Starfleet Academy. | Stephanie Augello/THR/The Hollywood Reporter/Getty ImagesThis brings us roughly to the current time: Strange New Worlds Season 3—delayed by the writers’ strike—premiered in 2025, alongside the standalone streaming film Section 31, led by . For a short period, SNW stood as the sole new Trek TV series on air, a status that shifted with the release of Starfleet Academy Season 1 earlier this year. Since production on that show’s Season 2 has just wrapped, viewers can expect at least 10 additional episodes following the Season 1 finale, set to air on March 12, 2026. Strange New Worlds Season 4 is slated to air later this year, with a strong likelihood of a fall release to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Star Trek on September 8. Following that, in 2027, a shortened final Season 5 consisting of six episodes will bring Strange New Worlds to a close; as of now, filming for this season has also been completed. This lull, or period of uncertainty, hasn’t gone unnoticed by longtime Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes. In a recent interview with Inverse, Frakes confirmed he did not direct any episodes of Starfleet Academy Season 2 or Strange New Worlds Season 5. When asked if there’s any Star Trek episode he directed that’s still in the pipeline (after the release of “300th Night”), Frakes responded plainly: “Not that I know of.” This indicates that, as of now, Starfleet Academy Episode 9 is the latest Star Trek story directed by Frakes.Jonathan Frakes, directing Starfleet Academy. | Paramount+Could this be his final Trek project? More crucially: Will 2028 mark the first year since 2017 without a new Star Trek series? With a Star Trek feature film currently in early development—led by Dungeons & Dragons directors —it’s plausible that this in-the-works project could come to fruition before another season of Starfleet Academy or an entirely new Trek series. However, these developments might not be definitive; a third season of Starfleet Academy could easily follow the second, alongside a potential new lineup of Star Trek shows post-2027. In that vein, current Star Trek head told Inverse that he believes Starfleet Academy has a “limitless engine” for storytelling, suggesting the series could continue for many years. The Star Trek franchise has undergone major transformations in the past. After 18 consecutive years of TV series from 1987 to 2005, the Trek franchise appeared to conclude, only to resurface four years later as a blockbuster film franchise helmed by J.J. Abrams. Critics once claimed the streaming Trek era initiated by Discovery wouldn’t endure, yet it has persisted—at minimum for the past decade, and possibly even longer. What will the next generation of Star Trek look like post-2027? Only a time traveler or a member of the Q Continuum would have that answer.Starfleet Academy Season 1 streams on Paramount+.

Canada’s Mark Carney under fire for inconsistent Iran stance, risking a deeper rift with the US

Within a span of fewer than seven days, Canada’s Prime Minister has moved from endorsing U.S. actions targeting Iran to pointing out that the U.S. and Israel "acted without engaging the United Nations or consulting with allies, including Canada"—and on Wednesday, he did not rule out Canada’s military involvement in the conflict."He’s been all over the map," Nader Hashemi— a Canadian-born associate professor of Middle East politics at Georgetown University— told Digital. "This doesn’t reflect well on him or on Canada’s government.""From my perspective, he’s being shaped by public sentiment and his grasp of Canada’s national interests—particularly the central relationship with the U.S. His initial statement was highly supportive of the U.S.-Israeli attack, but he reversed course two days later after facing significant pushback, as it failed to mention Canada’s commitment to international law, the rules-based order, and the United Nations."When reporters asked Carney during his Wednesday trip to Australia whether Canada would join U.S. military efforts against Iran, he told them that "one can never categorically rule out participation" and that Canada "will stand by our allies, when makes sense."Yet former NATO commander and retired Canadian Major-General David Fraser told CTV News Channel that it’s "unlikely" Canada would be pulled into the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran unless a , called for help under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.Hashemi noted that Carney’s recent remarks indicate the Canadian prime minister’s wish to avoid "creating a deeper rift with the United States than already exists."Melissa Lantsman, deputy leader of Canada’s Conservative Party, summed up the prime minister’s shifting stance on the with an X post: "We support it, we’re upset about it, we think it’s bad, but also, we might join in."Her fellow Conservative, Michael Chong—who serves as the shadow foreign affairs minister—told Canadian broadcaster CTV that "supporting the airstrikes and at the same time calling for a secession of those strikes" is "an inherent contradiction."Carney has also faced criticism from the political left.Following the start of airstrikes on Iran, Alexandre Boulerice—foreign affairs critic for Canada’s New Democratic Party—stated in a release that his party "strongly condemns the American and Israeli bombings of Iran" and "deplores the Carney government’s decision to blindly support this dangerous venture by Israel and Donald Trump's administration. We want Canada to be a voice for diplomacy, peace and international law."During his Australian visit this week, the prime minister stated that "hegemons are increasingly acting without constraint or respect for international norms or laws while others bear the consequences."He also noted that Canada backs "efforts to prevent and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security," but added that Canada "take[s] this position with regret because the current conflict is another example of the failure of the international order."Carney stated that "Canada calls for a rapid de-escalation of hostilities and is prepared to assist in achieving this goal."Also this week, at a security and defense conference in Ottawa, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand stated that Canada urges "on all sides to respect the rules of international engagement" and that "international law binds all parties" in the Middle East conflict. An Angus Reid Institute poll—released Tuesday and featuring 1,619 participants—found that 49% of Canadians opposed the against Iran, while 34% supported it.

The Decade’s Best Time-Travel Epic Finally Concludes Its Saga

StarzDrama! Intrigue! Villains eyeing Claire! Blood! Romance! Murder! Marsali and Fergus!Yes, is back, delivering what audiences crave with a truly gripping opening that primes the series for its . As this marks the final on-screen chapter with time-crossed lovers Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), numerous familiar faces from the past—previously absent—have returned for the show’s farewell, alongside lingering ghosts that cast a large shadow as Outlander heads toward its ultimate conclusion. And that’s just within the first three episodes. What’s even more intriguing is that the final book remains both incomplete and unpublished at present, evoking strong Scream 3 energy. Acknowledging the irony of that comparison, the key point is that while fans who’ve read the novels—or at least claim to be familiar with them—may recognize some developments, no one can truly say they know what’s in store. Even the show’s main stars, who’ve escaped near-certain death across its turbulent seven prior seasons—at times thanks solely to plot convenience—can’t guarantee safety; Outlander has long understood that time will eventually take its due. This awareness fits a story where time travel is central, yet Outlander always delves deeper. There’s history, and then there are the lives lived between its lines. It follows naturally, then, that the latest twist involves the life the soulmate spouses never got to share—a possibility raised that their first daughter Faith, whom they believed stillborn, not only survived but became the mother of young Fanny (Florrie Wilkinson), the child the Frasers took in and now suspect might be their granddaughter.Beyond the looming personal stakes, the Revolutionary War remains a pressing reality as the season opens. Though Jamie has resigned from the Continental Army, war has a way of disrupting even the best-laid plans for peace. It isn’t long before violence arrives at his North Carolina backcountry home as Jamie and Claire return from battle to their Fraser’s Ridge residence. The timing is awkward in multiple ways, and the chaos of our current era likely explains the absence of the usual rousing speeches about the patriotic fight for freedom. With those in top public office stripping entire groups not just of human rights (a wrong in itself) but basic means of survival, watching how it all began and the sacrifices made to secure the future may feel particularly poignant. While the central couple stands firmly on the right side of history this time, committed to the American cause, viewers will likely connect deeply with their friendships and family bonds among Loyalists. The political dynamics in Outlander’s final season let the show lean into its best and worst tendencies. | StarzCruelty, of course, transcends borders and nations, and at times Outlander teeters on unwatchable tedium in its dedication to realistic violence—its infamous, frequent sexual assault scenes turning away even some fans. Yet the show also risks another common pitfall: plot developments that feel like boxes to check en route to the conclusion. There’s at least a valid reason for such predictability, as the show’s original villain makes a sort of return that’s bound to impact viewers. From the start, audiences knew Claire’s long-suffering 20th-century first husband Frank bore an uncanny resemblance to the show’s first antagonist, the brutal British officer Black Jack Randall (both played by Tobias Menzies). Now Jamie is learning this truth for the first time, spurred by the release of a history book Frank wrote that also foretells his death.Everything, it seems, comes full circle—including unsettling hints of America’s future, shaped by its failure to uphold the ideals it claims to embody. On Outlander, the past never truly fades, a fitting note to end on in an era where our worst impulses continue to seep into daily life and politics.Outlander Season 8 premieres on Starz March 6. New episodes air Fridays.

Sri Lanka disembarks 208 crew members from a second Iranian vessel one day after U.S. strike sinks frigate

Sri Lanka started disembarking 208 crew members from a second Iranian ship one day after a U.S. submarine attack on an Iranian warship in the same area left 87 dead and several others unaccounted for."Following thorough talks with all involved parties, Sri Lanka has chosen to provide assistance to the Iranian vessel," Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake told journalists during a press conference in Colombo, as reported by Reuters.Dissanayake stated that the crew members being disembarked from the ship—located near Colombo’s port—include 53 officials, 84 cadets, 48 senior sailors, and 23 regular sailors. The warship IRIS Dena was sunk off Sri Lanka’s coast in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday. Local officials have sent two freezers to hold the 87 bodies retrieved from the sea.Gen. Dan Caine, the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, noted that the vessel was "effectively neutralized" in a Navy "fast attack" that employed a single Mark 48 torpedo. He further stated that the U.S. Navy had an "immediate effect, sending the warship to the ocean floor."Iran claims the ship was sunk in international waters without any prior warning."The U.S. will deeply regret the precedent it has established," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi posted on X.Iran has requested Sri Lanka’s help in repatriating the bodies.Sri Lankan officials indicated that the Dena was en route home after participating in a naval exercise held in the Bay of Bengal from February 18 to 25.They added that search and rescue efforts would continue for approximately 10 individuals who are still missing.Editor’s note: A previous version of this article incorrectly claimed that U.S. forces had sunk a second Iranian vessel off Sri Lanka’s coast.

43 Years On, a Neglected Japanese Sci-Fi Treasure Has Undergone a Massive Upgrade

ToeiThe films of Nobuhiko Obayashi occupy a particularly satisfying and surprising niche within Japanese cinema. His filmography is bracketed by dazzling works that blend the exuberance of adolescence with discoveries of historical suffering—starting with House in 1977 and concluding with Hanagatami in 2017 and Labyrinth of Cinema, which was released months after the director's passing in 2020.During the 1980s, Obayashi directed several adaptations of sci-fi books and travelogues for entertainment conglomerate Kadokawa. Now, boutique Blu-ray label Cult Epics has released The Girl Who Leapt Through Time in 4K, giving audiences the opportunity to discover an underrated gem from a director who crafted fantastical teen films like no one else, and which predated Mamoru Hosoda's work. How was The Girl Who Leapt Through Time received upon release?Obayashi had an early success with young audiences in 1977 with the strange and exhilaratingly original , a haunted house film featuring a cast of lively and sensitive teenagers and dizzying optical effects. In the early '80s, Obayashi was attempting to settle into a more commercial style without sacrificing his cinematic daring, and he struck gold with the time travel romance The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (also known in English as The Little Girl Who Conquered Time). While it wasn't Obayashi's first adaptation of popular juvenile literature, it was his most successful—the film was one of the highest-earning Japanese movies of 1983, turning its lead, Kadokawa idol Tomoyo Harada, into a star. It remained notable, not least because it was set in his birthplace, .Why is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time important to see now?The Girl Who Leapt Through Time benefited from Obayashi's more experimental inclinations. | ToeiIn the film, Kazuko Yoshiyama (Harada) is cleaning after class with her two friends, Goro Horikawa (Toshinori Omi) and Kazuo Fukamachi (Ryōichi Takayanagi), when she passes out in the school laboratory after inhaling lavender-scented smoke. From then on, the young student begins to experience time in an abnormal manner—a speeding cyclist zooms through the air in front of her, and during archery class, her arrow hits the target before she releases it.When the entire day resets to the previous one, Kazuko excels in class because she knows her teacher will spring a test on her, but she also worries about loose tiles and unexpected earthquakes harming her friends before they occur. She grows closer to the sensitive, intellectual Fukamachi, falling in love with him without realizing how he's connected to her time-slipping condition.Obayashi's films traverse a rich range of emotions—his heightened, energetic, and earnest sensibilities enable him to delve into surreal fantasy and deftly shift between comic and melancholic tones. By adapting the popular 1967 novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui, the director was able to incorporate surreal, magic trick-like editing and absurd optical and chroma-key effects. At the core of the story is a young girl on an unconventional journey of discovery, and the story of past colliding with future is reflected in the world around her; Onomichi's narrow streets, stone steps, and tiled roofs feel firmly historical, but the prominence of springtime blossom trees and colorful lavenders evokes a constant sense of renewal and possibility. The film's notably impulsive form of time travel is perfect for characters navigating the trickier stages of adolescence, and the later, tragic revelation that Kazuko's most poignant childhood memories have been supernaturally altered is a clever parallel for how imperfectly we process our personal attachments during our most inexperienced years. The romance in The Girl Who Leapt Through Time helped make it a hit. | ToeiThe "love triangle" aspect of Tsutsui's novel is prominent in the story's most well-known adaptation: Mamoru Hosoda's 2006 animated film, which brings the story into the 21st century as a loose sequel to the novel. , but due to an English dub and Hosoda's continued success as a director, it continued to attract new audiences. The animated version expands on the relationships and dilemmas of high schooler Makoto (Riisa Naka), who gleefully and frivolously uses her time-travel powers to erase classroom mishaps, play matchmaker with her schoolmates, and have a delicious family dinner a second time. There's far less striking atmosphere than Obayashi's film, but a much busier relationship plot, and the way Hosoda plays with the line between serious and silly reasons for altering the past makes Makoto's self-actualization funny one moment and serious the next. And yet Hosoda works hard to match the powerful, overwhelming emotional pathos that Obayashi conjures with ease.Despite the cult status of House, fewer of Obayashi's films have reached an international audience compared to Hosoda's, but this live-action version of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a striking, confident precursor to the animated version, as it effectively captures how mystery and sci-fi enhance the adolescent experience through Obayashi's unique style. What new features does The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Blu-ray have? is a brand-new 4K restoration directly from the camera negative, with remastered Japanese audio tracks and improved English subtitles. Cult Epics commissioned two new visual essays for the blu-ray release, one by Obayashi scholar Alex Pratt (who has also recorded a commentary track) and one by his biographer Max Robinson—the perfect introduction for anyone wanting to delve into his unpredictable body of work. There are also archival interviews with Obayashi and a featurette on lead actress and music idol Tomoyo Harada. For early buyers, Cult Epics includes a reproduction of the original Japanese 24-page souvenir program that accompanied the film's 1983 release.

Red Cross makes public audio of an Iranian civilian elaborating on the on – the – ground situation in Tehran: ‘No respite’

On Thursday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) released audio of a civilian in Tehran describing the on - the - ground situation as rocks Iran."For us here, the war didn't start four days ago. It began when we first heard the news about the build - up of forces in the region and the preparations for war. Now, with the war ongoing, we keep hearing constant explosions, and there's no break from it," the unnamed civilian stated. The civilian mentioned that the high frequency of explosions has made people so jittery that even ordinary noises can trigger panic attacks."At any moment, you can expect a loud noise. This has made us so nervous that any loud noise, even the sound of a passing car, gives us a panic attack," the civilian said.Even with the noise of the explosions, the civilian, who claimed to have been born and raised in Tehran, noticed that the city had turned into a ghost town as people either fled the war or restricted their movements to stay safe from aerial attacks."As someone who was born and has lived his entire life in this city, I've never seen it this quiet," the civilian said. "Some of the city's residents have left. Many others stayed and are trying to limit their movements to avoid being caught in the never - ending aerial attacks on the city. You don't see many people around. My city used to be a large and busy one. I'm not accustomed to seeing it so calm and quiet."Since the operation started on Saturday, the U.S. and Israel have carried out air and sea attacks on Iran. According to , the operation has killed at least 1,230 people in Iran. Additionally, six U.S. service members in Kuwait were killed during the hostilities. The ICRC has expressed concerns about the and the organization's president said on the first day of Operation Epic Fury that it could have "devastating consequences for civilians.""The military escalation in the is setting off a dangerous chain reaction across the region, with potentially devastating consequences for civilians," ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric said.In a statement issued a few days later, Spoljaric warned that "the scale of major military operations flaring up across the Middle East risks dragging the region — and beyond — into another large - scale armed conflict that will overwhelm any humanitarian response.""Without urgent steps to de - escalate the situation and respect the rules of war, more civilian lives will be lost," Spoljaric added. "Civilians are already bearing the brunt of the war."According to the civilian, Iranians on the ground are worried about the future and are wondering how the war will unfold. Another concern among the people is the possibility of supplies running out."The supplies are available in the open and operating shops. But what if the situation worsens or stays the same? Will the stocked supplies be of any use, or will they be useless in the face of what might happen?" the civilian wondered."It's especially more worrying for people like me, who have to take care of those with medical complications that need special attention. We're under a lot of stress, anxious about what's to come." Digital contacted the ICRC for comment.

Kurdish fighters await opportunity to strike Iran as Trump expresses support

FIRST ON FOX: With mounting U.S. and Israeli military pressure on Iran, and President Donald Trump expressing support for Kurdish forces, Kurdish opposition groups stationed along the nation's western border inform Digital they are vigilantly monitoring for an opportunity to move against the Islamic Republic, an adversary they've battled for decades.Kako Aliyar, who serves on the leadership committee of the Kurdish opposition party Komala, informed Digital that Kurdish movements stand prepared to take action should circumstances permit."Kurds have been awaiting a moment to take action," Aliyar stated. "We believe such moments are approaching."However, Aliyar noted that Kurdish forces cannot yet mobilize against the regime because Iran maintains the capacity to conduct missile and drone strikes, which opposition fighters would have difficulty countering.Aliyar said Iranian forces persist in targeting Kurdish opposition bases across the border in Iraq's Kurdistan region.Trump indicated his support for Kurdish fighters mounting an offensive against Iran, stating in a Thursday telephone interview with Reuters that he would endorse such an action."I think it's wonderful that they want to do that — I'd be fully supportive," Trump said. When questioned whether the United States would supply air cover for a Kurdish offensive, Trump refused to provide details."I cannot disclose that," he responded.Aliyar said Kurdish groups continue to endure pressure from Iran and remain subject to attacks on their bases across the border in Iraq's Kurdistan region."Our camps, the Kurdish political parties, remain under assault by the Iranian regime, and we cannot elaborate further," he said.Nevertheless, he suggested that should an opportunity present itself, Kurdish fighters would seek to re-enter Iranian territory."If we obtain an opportunity to return to our homeland, we will seize it," he said. The remarks come as Iranian Kurdish opposition groups strive to demonstrate a unified front against Iran.In February, multiple factions established the of Iranian Kurdistan, uniting parties including Komala, the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), PJAK and the Kurdistan Freedom Party.Aliyar said the coalition remains in the process of organizing but conveys a significant political message."Politically, it sends a powerful message to the Kurdish people inside the country and the international community that Kurds are united," he said. "We are collaborating, and we are striving to achieve our objectives collectively."Kurdish groups have long battled the Iranian government. Armed confrontations between Kurdish militants and Iranian forces trace back to the period following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, when Kurdish factions pursued autonomy and faced violent suppression by Tehran.Presently, numerous Kurdish opposition groups function from neighboring Iraqi Kurdistan, where they sustain political offices and limited military capabilities.Aliyar indicated that Kurdish forces could only mobilize if Iran's military capabilities were substantially diminished."I believe those missile and drone capabilities must be further weakened or completely eliminated because we cannot defend ourselves against them," he said.Iran's ability to launch remains one of the regime's most powerful deterrents against internal or external challengers."They can still fire missiles and they can still kill people," Aliyar said.Should those capabilities be reduced, he believes Kurdish forces could seek to capitalize on the opportunity."I believe everyone possesses the capacity to do so because Kurdish political parties enjoy tremendous legitimacy among the populace," he said. "People support them, people support us."Nevertheless, Aliyar warned that no one can foresee how events will develop."When war begins, you attempt to find a way to utilize it to your greatest advantage, but you cannot predict what will happen tomorrow," he said.Kurds in Iran constitute one of the country's largest ethnic minorities and have historically maintained .Kurdish parties established armed wings and political networks decades ago, providing them with a degree of organizational structure that many other Iranian opposition movements lack.Jino Victoria Doabi, an international political analyst specializing in Iran and Kurdistan, told Digital that "Kurds inside Iran possess their own history and tradition of struggle and resistance alongside political parties and armed forces."Doabi stated that Kurdish forces are improbable to act without explicit support from Washington."For that to occur, they need , both politically and in terms of security," Doabi said."Kurds have learned that they cannot simply act for the righteous cause anymore, because that will inflict significant pain, destruction and casualties upon civilians."Conversations regarding Kurdish involvement may have been ongoing well before the recent escalation, according to Doabi."I don't believe this has materialized overnight," she said. "I think this has been under discussion for a long time."Despite increasing attention on Kurdish groups, Aliyar stressed that are not directly participating in any potential campaign."Iraqi Kurds are not involved," he said. "I am not Iraqi, therefore I cannot comment on that matter."Analysts believe Kurdish insurgents alone are unlikely to overthrow the Iranian regime. However, if internal unrest expands and Kurdish forces coordinate with wider opposition movements, Iran's western border could emerge as a significant pressure point for Tehran. For Aliyar and other Kurdish leaders, however, the objective remains clear after decades of opposing the Islamic Republic."We have harbored this desire for 47 years," he said. "If we receive an opportunity, we will seize it."

‘Quiet Death’: Understanding the American Torpedo That Sank an Iranian Warship, Causing 87 Fatalities

The sinking of the Iranian warship IRIS Dena by a solitary Mk 48 torpedo has brought renewed attention to the nation's primary undersea weapon, a heavyweight torpedo that first entered operational service in 1972 and has been continuously upgraded for modern naval combat. The attack on the IRIS Dena signaled the first instance where a U.S. submarine employed a torpedo to sink an enemy vessel."In the Indian Ocean, an Iranian warship that believed it was safe in international waters was targeted. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo. A quiet demise," War Secretary Pete Hegseth stated during a press conference on Wednesday. The Navy states that the Mk 48 has long functioned as its key undersea weapon, engineered to "defeat all threatening surface ships and submarines in all ocean settings."The Mk 48 is a torpedo launched from a submarine that utilizes data from the launching submarine and its own sensors to locate and target submarines or surface ships.Physically, the weapon is constructed for destructive capability. As per Navy specifications, the torpedo has a diameter of 21 inches, weighs approximately 3,744 pounds, and carries a 650-pound high-explosive warhead.According to the Department of the Navy's cost estimates, a single Mk 48 torpedo is approximately $4.2 million.Lockheed Martin, one of the main contractors for the Mk 48 torpedo program, states that it can be guided in real time via a wire from the launching submarine, enabling operators to update targeting information and adjust its course post-launch.If the wire connection is lost, the torpedo can switch to autonomous homing, relying on external cues and onboard signal processing to continue its pursuit independently.Over time, the torpedo has advanced through hardware versions called 'Mods,' each incorporating upgraded sensors, guidance and control systems, and propulsion enhancements. The current fleet includes the Mod 7 configuration, developed in collaboration with the Royal Australian Navy, while Mod 8 is under development and Mod 9 is being pursued as a rapid prototyping initiative, as per the Department of War’s Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report by the Director of Operational Test and Evaluation. In addition to hardware upgrades, the torpedo undergoes recurring software updates referred to as Advanced Processor Builds, or APBs, which modify tactics, classification algorithms, and operator interfaces to enhance performance in increasingly complex undersea environments.

Iran sustains missile and drone attacks on neighboring nations amid multiple interception reports

On Thursday, Iran initiated a fresh series of assaults, as explosions were reported across the region and Tehran issued a warning that Washington would "bitterly regret" the destruction of an Iranian naval vessel. The Thursday strikes from Iran were aimed at Israel, U.S. military installations, and various nations in the area. Israel reported numerous missile attacks incoming while air raid alarms sounded in .On Thursday, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry stated that Iran deployed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to strike Nakhchivan International Airport and additional civilian infrastructure. The ministry indicated that both the specifics of the assault and the UAV capabilities were under investigation."The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns the attacks carried out by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against civilian infrastructure on the territory of Azerbaijan in the absence of any military necessity. The Islamic Republic of Iran bears the entire responsibility for the incident," read.Tehran has not admitted to targeting Azerbaijan, even though the nation's defense ministry has directly accused Iran of the attacks. near the U.S. Embassy in Doha on Thursday, with its Ministry of Defense confirming that the country was "subjected to a missile attack" and that its air defense systems were able to intercept it. The ministry urged the public to remain calm and avoid unofficial information.Abu Dhabi declared that officials were addressing an incident with falling debris in ICAD 2, located within the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi. Six individuals, identified by Abu Dhabi as Pakistani and Nepali citizens, sustained minor to moderate injuries.Iran has been conducting retaliatory attacks since Operation Epic Fury began, with the most recent barrage occurring one day after , which killed at least 87 Iranian sailors. Sri Lankan navy spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath reported that 32 individuals were rescued from the wreckage and hospitalized.Secretary of War defended the action during a Pentagon press briefing."An American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo — Quiet Death. The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War II. Like in that war, back when we were still the War Department, we are fighting to win," .Iranian officials denounced the assault, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi charging the U.S. Navy with perpetrating "an atrocity at sea." Simultaneously, Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli appeared on state TV and demanded the spilling of Israeli and "Trump's blood.""Fight the oppressive America, his blood is on my shoulders," he declared in an uncommon appeal for violence from an ayatollah, who holds one of the most senior positions within Shiite Islam's clergy. The United States and Israel initiated the war on Saturday with attacks targeting Iran's leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah , who was killed. Iran's missile stockpiles and nuclear sites were also struck.

IDF video captures F-35I ‘Adir’ downing Iranian jet over Tehran

On Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces published footage purporting to capture the instant an Israeli F-35I "Adir" stealth fighter shot down a Yak-130 aircraft over Tehran. This event represents the first combat victory against a manned fighter jet for the advanced aircraft.Set to the "Star Wars" theme music, the pilot's voice can be heard stating, "Completed. Target down. The target is down."The Israeli military stated on Wednesday that the downing of the aircraft over Iran's capital was a significant achievement for its fleet of F-35s.Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar, the commander of the Israeli Air Force, praised the pilots who executed the mission under Operation Roaring Lion."This historic shootdown in the skies of Tehran demonstrates the power of the Israeli Air Force and your individual resolve," Bar said. "The conflict goes on – return safely. Take some rest. Your next assignment is already prepared."The F-35I is Israel's specially adapted variant of the American-built F-35 Lightning II, a fifth-generation stealth fighter that serves as the cornerstone of the nation's aerial capabilities. In 2010, Israel was the first nation to choose the jet via the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, taking delivery of its initial aircraft in June 2016.The Israeli Air Force assigned the jet the Hebrew designation "Adir," which translates to "Mighty One."The Yak-130, conversely, is a jet trainer and light combat aircraft developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau and produced by the United Aircraft Corporation. Its maiden flight occurred in 1996, and it is still being manufactured today.According to Iran's state-run English-language network Press TV, the country acquired Yak-130s in September 2023 as part of a larger initiative to upgrade its air force. In November 2023, Brig. Gen. Mahdi Farahi, Iran's deputy defense minister, informed the semi-official Tasnim news agency that arrangements had been completed for Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets, Mil Mi-28 attack helicopters, and more Yak-130 trainers to enter service with the nation's military.Iran had earlier procured MiG-29 fighter jets from Russia during the 1990s.

TANAKA Develops World’s First High-Performance Palladium Hydrogen Permeable Membrane Exhibiting High Hydrogen Purification Performance at Temperatures around 100 degrees C

TOKYO, Mar 5, 2026 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - TANAKA PRECIOUS METAL TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & CEO: Koichiro Tanaka), a company engaged in the industrial precious metals business of TANAKA, today announced the successful development of “HPM-L111”, the world’s first metal*1 palladium (Pd) hydrogen permeable membrane capable of delivering high hydrogen permeation performance at low temperature range around 100°C. The breakthrough enables high-purity and fast hydrogen purification at significantly lower temperatures than previously possible, reducing energy consumption and supporting next-generation hydrogen ecosystem development across global markets.Sample shipments of HPM-L111 is scheduled to begin on or after March 5, 2026, with production capacity of approximately 100 samples per month. An academic presentation regarding this product will be made at The Japan Institute of Metals and Materials’ “2026 Spring Meeting,” which will be held at Chiba Institute of Technology from March 11 to 13, 2026. The product and a panel display will also be showcased at “H2 & FC EXPO Int’l Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo” being held at Tokyo Big Sight from March 17 to 19, 2026.Palladium (Pd) hydrogen permeable membrane "HPM-L111"A palladium hydrogen permeable membrane is a thin membrane product made from palladium alloy, which has the properties of hydrogen absorption and permeation. It is widely used for the separation and purification of high-purity hydrogen. Traditionally, metal membranes require high temperatures (at least 300°C) to achieve effective hydrogen permeation. By applying special treatment to the membrane’s surface, TANAKA succeeded in developing a metal membrane that can demonstrate high hydrogen permeation performance even at a low temperature range at or below 100°C.Issues in hydrogen purification using metal membranes and background to the development of HPM-L111Among PdCu alloy membranes, the existing product PdCu40 (an alloy with 60% palladium content and 40% copper content) has the highest level of hydrogen permeation performance. However, operation at a high temperature range of around 400°C is required to achieve its true performance, and higher costs from the addition of heating facilities and such were an issue for many years. Furthermore, with the advancement of hydrogen-related technologies in recent years, there are increasing need for hydrogen permeation using metal membranes in the low temperature range of 100°C or lower. Meanwhile, the speed of hydrogen penetration from the surface into metal membranes generally decreases when the temperature is 200°C or lower, significantly reducing the hydrogen permeation performance of conventional metal membranes and making practical application an issue. To solve these issues, for HPM-L111, TANAKA adopted its proprietary surface treatment technology nurtured through many years of precious metal materials research. Minute jagged structures were formed on the membrane’s surface to increase the specific surface area, resulting in a higher hydrogen penetration speed and achieving significant improvement in hydrogen permeation performance in the low temperature range of 100°C or lower.Features of HPM-L111High hydrogen permeation performance in the low temperature range around 100°CWorld’s first metal membrane allowing high-purity hydrogen purification in the low temperature range around 100°CExpected contributions to higher accuracy of hydrogen sensorsAllows high-speed removal of hydrogen generated within devicesCross-section of existing product PdCu40Cross-section of HPM-L111 Product nameThicknessWidthLengthRecommended temperatureExpected applicationsHPM-H310(PdCu40)>10μm<120mm<100mm400°C・Hydrogen purificationHPM-H211(PdCu39)>10μm<120mm<100mm300°C・Hydrogen purificationHPM-L111>10μm <35mm<85mm100°C・Hydrogen sensors・Fuel cells・Removal of hydrogen in vacuum equipment・Hydrogen purificationComparison of HPM-L111 against existing products and recommended applicationsTemperature dependence of HPM-L111's hydrogen permeability coefficientExpected applications of high-purity hydrogen permeation in the low temperature range, or 100°C or lower, include hydrogen sensors, fuel cells, and removal of hydrogen in vacuum equipment. In hydrogen sensors, it can help to improve detection accuracy by isolating interfering gases, while in vacuum equipment and such, it allows hydrogen to be removed from inside the equipment while maintaining an operating environment close to room temperature or a low temperature range. Furthermore, it can contribute toward the realization of carbon neutrality by reducing the energy for heating, as the heating process to at least 300°C—which was previously required—is no longer necessary. TANAKA will support the realization of a clean and efficient hydrogen society through the provision of this product.*1 As of March 5, 2026, based on internal research (according to a survey of patents and papers on hydrogen permeable membranes)About TANAKASince its foundation in 1885, TANAKA has built a portfolio of products to support a diversified range of business uses focused on precious metals. US-Israel air assault on Iran showcases new era of allied warfare

A major combined air offensive by the United States and Israel is systematically degrading Iran's missile infrastructure in an operation that officials and experts are calling one of modern warfare's most synchronized allied efforts. The Secretary of War stated that the campaign is swiftly achieving air superiority over Iran. "Beginning last night and concluding within days … the planet's two strongest air forces will possess total command of Iranian airspace," Hegseth remarked on Wednesday. "Unchallenged skies." "Our aircraft will operate around the clock … over Tehran, over Iran, over their capital… Iran's leadership will look up and witness nothing but U.S. and Israeli air dominance every minute of every day until we choose to end it."In an exclusive Tuesday interview with Digital, Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin stated, "The collaboration with the American military is extraordinary. We engage in joint planning and joint execution of operations within Iran and elsewhere."John Spencer, the Urban Warfare Institute's executive director, commented to Digital on the initial U.S. airpower onslaught. "Israel fielded an equal number of aircraft to the United States," Spencer noted. "For Israel, that constitutes about 80% of its total air force strength."He further said that the degree of coordination between Washington and Jerusalem establishes a new paradigm for coalition warfare. "This isn't independent action," Spencer explained. "This is unified action. Fully integrated and synchronized operations that merge capabilities." "Historically, we've seen coalitions of many nations," Spencer added. "However, a partner that is both ready and able to contribute such massive force is exceptionally uncommon."The Israeli offensive, dubbed Operation Roaring Lion, commenced with approximately 200 fighter jets conducting the most extensive coordinated air mission ever undertaken by the Israeli Air Force. According to the Israeli military, within the campaign's initial day, its fighter jets had secured a corridor enabling persistent operations over Tehran. In a first wave, Israeli planes hit systems throughout western and central Iran, striking hundreds of locations at once based on intelligence from Israel’s Intelligence Directorate and the CIA.They released hundreds of ordnance on roughly 500 targets, such as missile launchers, command hubs, and air defense installations.Israeli intelligence head Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder said the initial attack attained a degree of surprise uncommon in contemporary conflict. "Within 40 seconds, we removed more than 40 of Iran's most significant figures," Binder stated, alluding to high-ranking regime and military leaders, including Iran's Supreme Leader. "We are delivering an unambiguous message to our adversaries — there is no sanctuary we cannot reach."Spencer asserted that the opening strike's tactics signify a radical change in modern combat. "Israel's actions in this initial phase were previously inconceivable in military history. It is unprecedented," he said. "To begin by decapitating the leadership… typically, you first engage military forces. Here, they aimed at the political and military command structure and possessed the capacity to eradicate them within hours."Spencer, a veteran of the 2003 Iraq War, said the mission demonstrates progress in intelligence and precision strike technology. "I participated in the 2003 invasion," he recalled. "An operation of this nature was unimaginable just two decades ago."An IDF spokesperson declared a historic achievement on Wednesday: an Israeli Air Force F-35 fighter jet destroyed an Iranian plane, recording the first-ever combat kill by an F-35 against a manned aircraft globally and the first Israeli air-to-air victory in 40 years.Figures released Wednesday show that since the operation began, Israeli planes have flown over 1,600 sorties and used more than 5,000 munitions.Per the IDF, the attacks have demolished approximately 300 missile launchers and struck over 600 Iranian military infrastructure locations.Pre-operation Israeli intelligence estimates suggested Iran was speeding up its missile program, aiming for 8,000 missiles by 2027. Israel assessed Iran held about 3,000 missiles when the campaign started. The IDF reports the strikes have already halted the manufacture of at least 1,500 ballistic missiles and ruined hundreds more from Iran's existing stockpile. Israeli authorities state the missile initiative posed a direct threat not only to Israel but also to U.S. forces and regional allies. "A regime that openly avows its goal to annihilate the State of Israel possessing missiles represents an existential danger," the IDF stated.Six individuals have been killed, and multiple others wounded, during Operation Epic Fury.Israeli emergency services reported that, as of Wednesday night, 13 civilians in Israel had been killed and over 1,000 injured by Iranian missile and drone attacks retaliating for the operation. The United Arab Emirates has recorded three fatalities and 68 injuries since hostilities began.Accurate casualty numbers in Iran are still hard to confirm. Media accounts indicate dozens were killed in the campaign's opening stage, with more military personnel and civilians dying after strikes on military sites and infrastructure. With the conflict widening beyond Iran, Israeli forces have hit more than 160 targets in recent days. To maintain the multi-front effort, Israel has called up around 110,000 reservists."Wars are tests of resolve," Spencer concluded. "Iran's approach is to shatter the United States' and Israel's determination to proceed. The issue is whether they can withstand the strain sufficiently to achieve that."

CMS(867.HK/8A8.SG): Self-Developed INHBE-Targeting siRNA Drug Received IND Approval for Overweight/Obesity

SHENZHEN, CHINA, Mar 5, 2026 - (ACN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - China Medical System Holdings Limited (“CMS” or the “Group”) is pleased to announce that self-developed innovative drug INHBE-targeting small nucleic acid drug CMS-D008 injection (“CMS-D008”) received the Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice issued by National Medical Products Administration (“NMPA”) on 4 March 2026. The NMPA has approved the conduct of clinical trials of CMS-D008 injection for overweight or obese individuals.About CMS-D008CMS-D008 is a novel siRNA therapy administered by subcutaneous injection. In the future, it may be developed for the treatment of overweight/obesity, abdominal obesity, and related metabolic diseases.Fat Loss, muscle preserved: a potentially better therapeutic option for overweight/obesity Overweight or obesity is a chronic, progressive, relapsing disease characterized by excessive accumulation or abnormal distribution or function of body fat[1]. Targeted inhibition of INHBE might be more conducive for long-term weight management at the genetic level with precisely lower visceral fat and favorable metabolic profiles.CMS-D008 teams up with CMS-D005: highly effective weight loss plus long-term maintenance, building a more comprehensive weight-loss solutionCMS-D008 will synergize with CMS-D005, a self-developed innovative drug currently in clinical development. The Group is actively preparing to initiate relevant clinical trials and strives to launch the Product as soon as possible.About CMSCMS is a platform company linking pharmaceutical innovation and commercialization with strong product lifecycle management capability, dedicated to providing competitive products and services to meet unmet medical needs.CMS focuses on the global first-in-class (FIC) and best-in-class (BIC) innovative products, and efficiently promotes the clinical research, development and commercialization of innovative products, enabling the continuous transformation of scientific research into clinical practices to benefit patients.CMS deeply engages in several specialty therapeutic fields, and has developed proven commercialization capabilities, extensive networks and expert resources, resulting in leading academic and market positions for its major marketed products.
