NEC Develops Near Real-time RIC for High Performance 5G vRAN

TOKYO, Feb 21, 2025 - (JCN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) has developed a Near Real-time RAN Intelligent Controller (Near-RT RIC) platform and RIC applications that enable flexible and intelligent network control that is compliant with the O-RAN Alliance (*1) specifications for virtualized Radio Access Networks (vRAN).In recent years, as the spread of cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI has progressed rapidly, there are high expectations for the provision of new user experiences that utilize these technologies. As the infrastructure that supports these experiences, 5G networks require high scalability and flexibility to effectively support new services, as well as mechanisms to efficiently operate existing services. In order to provide an advanced 5G network that meets these requirements, NEC has developed a Near-RT RIC platform that enables flexible and intelligent network control in accordance with O-RAN Alliance specifications for vRAN and runs on general-purpose hardware. This makes it possible to dynamically customize RAN (base station) settings according to service requirements and network conditions. Furthermore, as RIC applications that run on this platform, NEC has implemented functions for load balancing between cells, guaranteeing the Service Level Agreement (SLA) for slices, and achieving high reliability with acceptable latency (*2).Features of NEC's Near-RT RIC:The Near-RT RIC developed by NEC can flexibly support functional enhancements such as quality improvement, SLA guarantees, and power saving by dynamically customizing RAN operations in response to diversifying service requirements by adding RIC applications, including the following:RIC Application Examples:1. Load balancing between cellsThe application can quickly resolve load imbalances between adjacent cells, and in environments where network load fluctuates depending on time of day and location, it can improve the throughput of terminals connected to cells with high load.2. SLA guarantee for slicesBy dynamically optimizing the radio resources for each slice, it is possible to provide quality of service (QoS) in accordance with the SLA to the terminals connected to the slice, even in a congested network environment.3. High reliability with acceptable latencyBy using AI to analyze acceptable latency and fluctuations in radio quality, and dynamically optimizing radio control for each terminal, it is possible to increase the satisfaction rate of acceptable latency in environments where there is a high demand for reliability in the arrival of data within an acceptable latency. Moreover, since RIC control is separated from conventional RAN functions and operates on a virtualized platform via an interface that complies with O-RAN Alliance specifications, it is possible to quickly incorporate hardware and software innovations related to AI.By utilizing these mechanisms to automate and make RAN operations more autonomous, it is possible to continuously improve the value of vRAN while keeping Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) down.NEC has also demonstrated the effectiveness of its high-reliability function for achieving acceptable latency in an indoor test environment using 5G vRAN.Overview and Results of the Technical Verification:Using 5G vRAN, NEC built a network for remotely controlling mobile robots (*3) in an indoor environment and conducted a demonstration experiment of an RIC application that achieves high reliability in terms of acceptable latency. By dynamically optimizing radio control for each mobile robot terminal, NEC demonstrated that the frequency of packets exceeding the acceptable latency could be reduced to less than 1/6 of the frequency when RIC was not used.Future Developments:NEC will continue to contribute to improving service quality in the mobile network market, from corporate digital transformation (DX) to general users, by expanding Near-RT RIC applications that improve network quality, save power, and improve operational autonomy using AI, in order to achieve the advancement of vRAN with an eye on Beyond 5G/6G.*Part of the results of this news release is based on results obtained from the "Research and Development Project of the Enhanced Infrastructures for Post-5G Information and Communication Systems" (JPNP20017), commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).(1) O-RAN AllianceAn international industry organization that promotes standardization with the aim of realizing open and scalable next-generation radio access networks, including 5G.(2) Acceptable latencyThe communication latency that users and/or applications can tolerate.(3) Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR)About NEC CorporationNEC Corporation has established itself as a leader in the integration of IT and network technologies while promoting the brand statement of “Orchestrating a brighter world.” NEC enables businesses and communities to adapt to rapid changes taking place in both society and the market as it provides for the social values of safety, security, fairness and efficiency to promote a more sustainable world where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential. Prioritise Self-Love and Self-Care This Year For A Better You

SINGAPORE, Feb 20, 2025 - (ACN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - Self-care has traditionally taken a backseat in our fast-paced world, yet its importance cannot be overstated. Rather than viewing external relationships as the ultimate source of fulfilment, many are prioritising personal well-being and self-care. This shift has redefined how individuals approach health, empowerment, and overall quality of life.Despite its proven benefits—reducing stress, boosting self-esteem, and strengthening our connections with others—self-care is often neglected. A recent study found that only a third of people practice self-care daily, highlighting the need to prioritise habits that nourish the mind and body.LAC emphasises the importance of self-care, encouraging individuals from all walks of life to nurture their well-being and invest in their health. To support this journey of self-care, LAC (pronounced L-A-C) has thoughtfully curated a selection of wellness essentials designed to help individuals juggling packed schedules feel their best, inside and out.LAC Hair Protect™ - Hair Growth Formula FullCal® - Highly Assimilable Calcium Citrate Formula, and Joint Protec® Flex - UC-II® Collagen + CurQlife Plus® TurmericFrom maintaining strong bones and joints to nourishing hair health, these supplements help individuals to maintain vitality and mobility, ensuring you stay vibrant, full of life, and ready to embrace self-love this season.Hair health is closely tied to overall well-being, and factors like stress, poor circulation, and nutrient deficiencies can contribute to hair thinning and loss. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), LAC Activated® Hair Protect™ combines nine natural herbs, including He Shou Wu, to support scalp health, strengthen hair follicles, and promote natural growth.By nourishing the liver and kidneys—key organs in TCM for maintaining healthy blood circulation—this vegetarian and halal-certified formula helps improve hair strength, thickness, and shine while reducing hair loss. Ideal for those experiencing stress, frequent hair treatments, or premature greying, LAC Activated® Hair Protect™ supports a fuller, healthier head of hair.As simple as it sounds, prolonged day-to-day activities, alongside growing age, often brings joint issues such as the synovial fluid and calcium depletion within the bones and joints. The combination of both LAC FullCal® - Highly Assimilable Calcium Citrate and Formula Joint Protec® Flex - UC-II® Collagen + CurQlife Plus® Turmeric provides the necessary nutrients for stronger bones and joint health.Formulated with LAC’s proprietary blend, individuals will no longer need to consume separate combinations of supplements to achieve similar results, bringing much convenience and cost-effectiveness at the same time.By prioritising self-care, individuals can cultivate health, confidence, and overall well-being, making them better equipped to navigate life’s demands. LAC encourages everyone to take a step back, recharge, and invest in their health, because true well-being starts from within. Copyright 2025 ACN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com.

Trump Administration Officials Resigning in Protest “`

Several high-ranking government officials have resigned from the Trump Administration, citing a government streamlining effort. These career officials, many with experience in prior administrations, criticized President Trump and Elon Musk for allegedly pressuring employees deemed disloyal to leave their positions. In February, the Trump Administration, collaborating with the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Musk, instructed agencies to dismiss most probationary and temporary staff. Below is a list of officials who resigned in protest. Director of the FDA’s food division Jim Jones, director of the Food and Drug Administration’s food division, resigned on Feb. 17, citing extensive agency cuts that rendered his continued service pointless. In his resignation letter, Jones stated his intention to work towards improving American health by reducing diet-related illnesses and chemical risks in food. He cited the Trump administration's disregard for the personnel crucial for food safety reform as the reason for his departure. Jones, who joined the agency in September 2023, recently oversaw the Biden administration's initiatives in January and the FDA's investigation into contaminated applesauce linked to numerous childhood lead poisoning cases. He estimated that 89 of his division's 2,000 staff members were dismissed as part of the Trump administration's cuts. Jones also criticized Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the newly appointed secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), for falsely accusing food staff of corruption. Acting SSA commissioner Michelle King, the acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration, resigned after the DOGE requested access to sensitive American citizen data. King refused to provide this information and was subsequently replaced by Leland Dudek. King had a 30-year career at the agency, overseeing retiree and disability benefits. Trump claimed King was fired, not resigned. GSA engineering lead Steven Reilly, a lead engineer at the General Services Administration’s Technology Transformation Services, resigned on Feb. 18 after a DOGE associate requested access to sensitive data, including personally identifiable information (PII). Reilly stated in a message to colleagues that the request lacked justification and that granting full access to PII was unacceptable. While offering alternatives, such as read-only access, the request for full administrative access was not withdrawn. Reilly led the engineering team for a government system used for mass public text messaging. Career Justice Department officials Numerous Justice Department officials, including top prosecutors in Washington, D.C., and New York, resigned since Trump took office, protesting his efforts to overhaul the department. Dozens resigned after acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove ordered the dismissal of corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Adams, who pleaded not guilty, has developed ties with Trump and his border czar, Tom Homan, particularly on immigration issues. Those who resigned include Danielle Sassoon, acting U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York; Hagan Scotten, assistant U.S. attorney with the Southern District of New York; John Keller, acting head of the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section; and Kevin Driscoll, acting head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. Elsewhere, Bradley Weinsheimer, a senior ethics official, accepted a deferred resignation after a reassignment attempt. Weinsheimer had served 34 years with the department. Denise Cheung, head of the criminal division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., resigned on Feb. 18 after being ordered to open a grand jury investigation into Biden-era climate funds, which she deemed premature and lacking evidence. She refused the order to freeze the funding, arguing it required probable cause of a crime.

Hamas Returns Remains of Four Israeli Hostages, Including a Mother and Her Children

In Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, Hamas returned the remains of four Israeli citizens on Thursday. Among the deceased were reportedly a mother and her two children, whose deaths had symbolized the nation's grief since the October 7, 2023 attack. The deceased were identified as Shiri Bibas and her children, Ariel and Kfir, along with 83-year-old Oded Lifshitz. Nine-month-old Kfir was the youngest victim. Hamas claims all four were killed, along with their guards, during Israeli airstrikes. “Our hearts – the hearts of an entire nation – are broken,” stated Israeli President Isaac Herzog. “On behalf of the State of Israel, I offer my condolences and seek forgiveness. Forgiveness for failing to protect you that day. Forgiveness for not bringing you home safely.” Four black coffins were displayed on a Gaza Strip stage, surrounded by banners, one prominently depicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a vampire. Thousands, including numerous masked and armed militants, watched as the coffins were transferred to Red Cross vehicles for transport to Israeli forces. Following a small, family-requested funeral service, the bodies were sent to an Israeli laboratory for DNA identification, a process expected to take up to two days. Families will receive confirmation only after identification is complete. Israeli channels did not air the handover. In Tel Aviv's Hostage Square, where Israelis have gathered to witness the release of living hostages, a screen displayed photos and videos of Lifshitz and the Bibas family, including images of a smiling baby Kfir and the family in Batman costumes. Israel has celebrated the recent return of 24 living hostages under a fragile ceasefire, halting over 15 months of conflict. Thursday's event served as a stark reminder of those who perished in captivity while truce negotiations continued for over a year. This event could also spur negotiations on the ceasefire's second phase, which has barely begun. The first phase is scheduled to conclude in early March. Infant was the youngest taken hostage Kfir Bibas, a red-haired infant with a toothless grin, was just 9 months old when militants stormed his family's home on October 7, 2023. His brother Ariel was 4. Footage from that day shows a terrified Shiri wrapping her sons as militants escorted them into Gaza. Her husband, Yarden Bibas, was separately abducted and released this month after 16 months of captivity. Relatives in Israel held onto hope, marking Kfir's first and second birthdays and his brother's fifth. The Bibas family stated Wednesday that they would await “identification procedures” before confirming the deaths of their loved ones. Israelis showed solidarity with the family by wearing orange – a reference to the boys' red hair – and a popular children's song was composed in their honor. Similar to the Bibas family, Oded Lifshitz was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz, along with his wife Yocheved, who was freed during a week-long ceasefire in November 2023. Oded was a journalist who advocated for Palestinian rights and Arab-Jewish peace. In the October 7 attack, Hamas militants abducted 251 hostages, including approximately 30 children, and killed roughly 1,200 people, mostly civilians. Over half the hostages, and most women and children, have been released through ceasefire agreements or other deals. Israeli forces rescued eight and recovered dozens of bodies of those killed in the initial attack or while in captivity. It’s not clear if the ceasefire will last Hamas plans to release six living hostages on Saturday in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and says it will release four more bodies next week, concluding the ceasefire's first phase. This leaves the militants with around 60 hostages, all men, roughly half of whom are believed to be deceased. Hamas has stated that it won't release the remaining captives without a lasting ceasefire and complete Israeli withdrawal. Netanyahu, with the Trump administration's full support, aims to destroy Hamas's military and governing capabilities and secure the return of all hostages – objectives widely seen as mutually exclusive. Trump's proposal to relocate approximately 2 million Palestinians from Gaza, allowing the U.S. to own and rebuild it – a plan welcomed by Netanyahu but universally rejected by Palestinians and Arab nations – further jeopardizes the ceasefire. Hamas may hesitate to release more hostages if it believes the war will resume with the intention of annihilating the group or forcibly displacing Gaza's population. Israel's military offensive killed over 48,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which doesn't differentiate between civilians and combatants. Israel claims over 17,000 fighters were killed, but hasn't provided evidence. The offensive devastated vast areas of Gaza, leaving entire neighborhoods in ruins. At its peak, the war displaced 90% of Gaza's population. Many have returned to find their homes destroyed and rebuilding impossible. —Shurafa reported from Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, and Lidman reported from Tel Aviv, Israel.

Gambian Activist Leads Fight to Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation

Fatou Baldeh's work in the past year has been pivotal in the fight to end female genital mutilation (FGM) in Gambia. A survivor and founder of Women in Liberation & Leadership (WILL), the 41-year-old Baldeh is a leading activist against FGM, a practice banned in Gambia since 2015 but still prevalent, affecting approximately 75% of women and girls aged 15-49. FGM causes lasting health problems and is an internationally recognized human rights violation. Weak law enforcement remains a challenge; Baldeh explains that police often dismiss reported cases, viewing them as cultural or traditional practices rather than crimes. Recently, a Gambian parliamentary bill threatened to undermine women's rights, prompting Baldeh and WILL to mobilize. They collaborated with other organizations, engaging survivors to share their stories with parliamentarians and engaging in dialogue with religious leaders. A nationwide study documenting the health consequences of FGM provided crucial evidence to sway political opinion. Their efforts were successful; in July 2024, the Gambian parliament rejected the bill. Baldeh highlights the increased awareness surrounding FGM, emphasizing the importance of open discussion to eradicate the practice. The controversy surrounding the proposed bill brought renewed global attention to the issue. She stresses the urgency of the situation, noting the continued prevalence of FGM in 2025, and the impact of the Gambian situation in raising international awareness.

Gisèle Pelicot: A Survivor’s Fight for Change Against Sexual Violence “`

Gisèle Pelicot's life, previously a picture of comfortable retirement in Provence with her husband of over 50 years, was dramatically altered by the arrest of her husband, Dominique, in 2020, for secretly filming women. The discovery of over 20,000 photos and videos revealed a far more horrifying reality: Gisèle had been repeatedly raped by over 70 men over nearly a decade while drugged into unconsciousness by Dominique. Gisèle's courageous decision to forgo anonymity brought her story to international attention. The subsequent trial, involving Dominique and 50 others charged with rape and sexual assault, transformed her from an unknown individual into a global symbol in the fight against sexual violence. Throughout the three-month trial, Gisèle, attending every session, insisted on the public airing of the disturbing evidence. Her actions resonated deeply with the French public, inspiring widespread support, including marches and murals in her honor. After the verdicts, Gisèle acknowledged the significance of her actions and expressed solidarity with other victims whose stories remain untold. However, despite the widespread impact of her case, significant challenges remain. A French parliamentary study revealed that only a small percentage of rape survivors press charges, and an even smaller percentage result in convictions. France's narrow legal definition of rape, which requires violence, surprise, constraint, or threat, complicates many cases, and 17 of Gisèle's attackers have appealed their convictions. Their defense argued that Dominique's invitations implied consent. Gisèle's lawyer believes the case may finally prompt necessary legal reforms. Experts caution against solely focusing on Gisèle's heroism, emphasizing the need to address the systemic issues that allowed such abuse to occur. They highlight her desire not for accolades but for meaningful change. Despite this, Gisèle's bravery has already empowered other survivors to speak out. Many now cite her as an example, finding the strength to share their own experiences. Gisèle's own words from the witness stand best encapsulate her motivations: she aimed to inspire other rape victims to find their voice, emphasizing that her actions stemmed from a deep-seated will and determination to effect societal change. ```

Patel’s FBI Director Nomination Faces Senate Vote “`

The Senate is scheduled to vote Thursday on Kash Patel's nomination as FBI director. This decision could place him at the head of the nation's top federal law enforcement agency, despite Democratic concerns about his qualifications and potential bias towards President Trump. Patel passed the Senate Judiciary Committee last week with a 12-10 party-line vote and faces a Senate vote Thursday afternoon. Confirmation is anticipated unless more than three Republican senators oppose Trump's choice, a scenario considered unlikely. Trump has successfully secured approval for most of his nominees despite initial Republican reservations. Patel, a staunch Trump supporter and vocal critic of the FBI, would take the helm of an agency in turmoil. The Justice Department recently dismissed senior FBI officials and unusually requested the names of thousands of agents involved in investigations related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Trump has indicated that some of these agents may be fired. Republicans, angered by perceived anti-conservative bias within law enforcement during the Biden administration and ongoing investigations into Trump, support Patel. Democrats, however, cite his lack of management experience and controversial past statements as disqualifying. “My prediction is if you vote for Kash Patel, more than any other confirmation vote you make, you will come to regret this one to your grave,” warned Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut. Patel's past comments on numerous podcasts over the last four years include labeling investigators of Trump as "criminal gangsters," referring to some January 6th rioters as "political prisoners," and vowing to target anti-Trump "conspirators" in government and media. During his confirmation hearing, Patel claimed Democrats misrepresented his remarks, such as his suggestion to transform FBI headquarters into a "deep state" museum. He also denied that a list of government officials in his book constituted an "enemies list," calling that a "total mischaracterization." FBI directors serve 10-year terms to minimize political influence. Patel's appointment follows the resignation of Christopher Wray, Trump's 2017 appointee who served over seven years but clashed with the president and was deemed insufficiently loyal. Wray resigned before Trump left office. A former federal defender and Justice Department counterterrorism prosecutor, Patel gained Trump's attention during his first term while working on the Republican-led House Intelligence Committee. There, he helped draft a memo sharply criticizing the FBI's Russia-Trump campaign investigation. Patel later served in the Trump administration as a counterterrorism official at the National Security Council and as chief of staff to the Secretary of Defense. ```

Rubio Skips G20 Meeting in South Africa Amid U.S.-South Africa Tensions “`

JOHANNESBURG — A gathering of G20 foreign ministers is scheduled for Thursday in Johannesburg. However, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be absent due to strained U.S.-South Africa diplomatic relations. Key figures such as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi are anticipated to attend. The U.S. will be represented by acting ambassador to South Africa, Dana Brown. The European Union, the United Nations, and the African Union (a G20 member) will also participate. Rubio's absence follows a U.S. presidential executive order halting foreign aid to South Africa, citing a law perceived by the White House as discriminatory against the white minority. Further fueling the tension is South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola clarified that Rubio's non-attendance doesn't constitute a complete boycott of South Africa's G20 events. He confirmed U.S. representation in Johannesburg this week in some capacity. U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent also confirmed his absence from a forthcoming G20 finance ministers' meeting in South Africa, citing Washington commitments. A senior Treasury official will attend in his place. Analysts interpret Rubio and Bessent's absences as signaling a U.S. retreat from the G20 and highlighting severely strained relations. “To understand the U.S. administration's message, we need to see if the Treasury Secretary attends next week. His absence would be a serious indicator,” noted political analyst Daniel Bradlow. President Cyril Ramaphosa will officially open the meeting, addressing the theme "Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability," a diversity, equality, and inclusion framework opposed by the new Trump administration. South Africa will host over 130 working group meetings and 23 ministerial-level meetings this year as part of its G20 presidency, which began in December 2024. The U.S. is slated to assume the G20 presidency in 2026, following South Africa's tenure.

Trump Demands Fort Knox Gold Audit; Treasury Secretary Confirms Reserves “`

During a flight back to Washington on Air Force One Wednesday evening, President Trump was questioned by a reporter about potential Pentagon budget cuts. His response may be perplexing unless you’ve been following Musk’s recent X posts. Trump stated that Musk would be inspecting Fort Knox, the renowned Kentucky gold depository. His reason? "To ensure the gold is there," Trump explained. Another reporter expressed confusion about the gold's potential disappearance. Trump responded, "If the gold is missing, we'll be extremely upset." Musk, the world's wealthiest individual, who was traveling with the President on Air Force One, has been actively posting online about this. “Who’s verifying the gold hasn’t been stolen from Fort Knox?” he questioned. “It might be there, it might not.” “LIVESTREAM IT,” a comment suggested. Musk replied with two fire emojis. Musk and Trump could inquire with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Earlier Wednesday, Wisconsin talk show host Dan O’Donnell raised the conspiracy theory with Bessent. “We conduct an annual audit,” Bessent confirmed. “All the gold is present and accounted for.” “This is apparently a significant concern for many people,” O’Donnell noted. “Elon Musk has pledged to independently verify the gold’s presence.” Bessent offered to arrange an inspection for any interested senator. ```

Trump Advocates Federal Takeover of Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump voiced his support for federal intervention in Washington, D.C.’s governance on Wednesday, endorsing proposals to place the District under direct federal control. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump cited concerns about crime and homelessness, stating, “I believe the federal government should assume responsibility for Washington, D.C.—to ensure its safety.” He further emphasized, “I think we ought to manage the District of Columbia.” Congress currently reviews all D.C. legislation and holds the power to overturn laws under the city’s Home Rule Act. However, some Republican members of Congress are pushing for stricter measures to diminish the city’s autonomy and return it to direct federal governance, reverting to its original structure. Trump expressed personal regard for Mayor Muriel Bowser but criticized the city’s administration. “They’re failing to address the issues effectively,” Trump asserted. “Excessive crime, and an unacceptable level of homelessness—too many encampments on the city’s beautiful lawns.” He highlighted the unseemly appearance of homelessness when hosting international dignitaries. “This situation is simply untenable,” Trump stated. “We can't tolerate these tent cities across our once-magnificent plazas and lawns.”

Thousands of IRS Employees Facing Layoffs Amidst Tax Season

WASHINGTON — Approximately 7,000 IRS employees nationwide face job cuts starting Thursday, according to a source familiar with the plans who spoke to the Associated Press. The layoffs primarily impact probationary employees with less than a year of service, concentrated within compliance departments. This source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the information, confirmed that compliance work involves ensuring taxpayer adherence to tax laws, including filing and payment responsibilities. These job losses are part of the Trump administration's broader effort to reduce the federal workforce, directed by the Department of Government Efficiency. This directive mandates the dismissal of nearly all probationary employees lacking civil service protection, despite assurances given earlier this month to IRS staff involved in the 2025 tax season that buyout offers would not be available until mid-May, after the tax filing deadline. The potential impact of these layoffs on tax collection services remains unclear. During the Biden administration, the IRS focused on pursuing high-net-worth tax evaders to boost U.S. revenue, given the nation’s $36 trillion debt. By the close of 2024, the IRS had recouped over $1.3 billion in back taxes from wealthy tax dodgers. The IRS employs roughly 90,000 people nationwide, with racial minorities and women making up 65% of its workforce, according to the most recent IRS data. Beyond layoffs, the Trump administration plans to deploy IRS personnel to assist the Department of Homeland Security with immigration enforcement. In an early February letter, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem requested that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent provide IRS employees to support ongoing immigration enforcement actions. The AP's requests for comment from the IRS and the U.S. Treasury went unanswered.

Trump Endorses Musk’s Proposal for a DOGE Savings Dividend to Americans

WASHINGTON — President Trump stated on Wednesday his approval of returning a portion of DOGE’s cost savings to American citizens as a dividend. At a Miami investment conference, he mentioned the administration's consideration of allocating 20% of DOGE's savings to citizens and another 20% to national debt reduction. Trump also suggested that the prospect of dividend payments would encourage the reporting of wasteful spending. “They’ll be reporting it themselves,” Trump explained. “They participate in the process of saving us money.” Later, while returning to Washington on Air Force One, he responded favorably to a reporter's question about Musk's proposal. “I love it,” the Republican president told reporters on the plane. The previous day, Musk indicated he would consult with the President regarding a suggested “DOGE Dividend” announcement that would return savings to taxpayers. DOGE's initiatives have already resulted in the reduction of thousands of federal government employees.
