One half is placed in a stout bag to form the assay sample that is forwarded securely to the independent analytical lab. The remaining half core is stored on site where it is available for further examination and sampling. The assay cores are subject to a Chain of Custody routine as they are shipped from camp to a bonded carrier for delivery to the lab.Core samples are analysed at the North Vancouver facility of ALS Canada Ltd. using their PREP-31, PGM-ICP24, ME-MS61, and ME-ICP06 packages. Each core sample is dried, then crushed to 70% passing a 2mm screen. All material is processed in an automatic Riffle splitter to yield a 250g homogenized, representative sample. This sub-sample is then pulverized to 85% passing a 75-micron screen. All samples are analyzed for Au, Pt, Pd by 50g fire-assay fusion/ICP-ES finish, using PGM-ICP24 package. A separate 0.25g pulp split is analyzed by Four Acid digestion/ICP-MS finish, reporting 48 elements. Over limit elements are analyzed by Ore Grade Four Acid digestion/ICP-ES finish using ME-OG62 assay package. All of Doubleview's core samples are analyzed or assayed at independent ISO 17025 and ISO 9001- certified laboratories. When initial assays are received and accepted by our staff, a certain fraction of the samples will be sent to a second ISO-certified lab for check assay and verification purposes. Assays will be reported in News Releases.Doubleview maintains a website at www.doubleview.ca.Qualified Persons:Erik Ostensoe, P. GA-ASI Advances Sub-Hunting With Test of New Air-Dropped Sensors
SAN DIEGO, CA, Feb 26, 2025 - (ACN Newswire via SeaPRwire.com) - General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) continues to expand the role of unmanned aerial systems, demonstrating the first-ever Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capability on an MQ-9B SeaGuardian®. In a groundbreaking test from January 20-30, 2025, a company-operated MQ-9B SeaGuardian successfully deployed and tested anti-submarine sensors using multiple pre-production Sonobuoy Dispensing System (SDS) pods.Having already proven its ability to track submerged targets, SeaGuardian took this capability further with GA-ASI's newly designed SDS pods. These pods deployed multiple sonobuoys to conduct onboard thermal-depth and acoustic data processing. Using Directional Frequency Analysis and Recording (DIFAR), Directional Command Activated Sonobuoy System (DICASS), and Bathythermograph sonobuoys, SeaGuardian effectively detected, tracked, and analyzed underwater targets while collecting critical acoustic intelligence."This demonstration represents a major leap forward in unmanned capabilities and marks a major milestone in proving that an unmanned aircraft can perform end-to-end persistent ASW operations," said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. "The success of this testing paves the way for enhanced anti-submarine warfare capabilities on the MQ-9B SeaGuardian. We look forward to continued collaboration with the U.S. Navy as they explore innovative solutions for distributed maritime operations in the undersea domain."As part of the development process, GA-ASI successfully deployed multiple DIFAR and DICASS test sonobuoys, precisely correlating ejection speed with stress/strain data. This provided a high-fidelity launch model to refine future deployment capabilities.Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) AIRWorks played a key role in supporting and overseeing the development, ensuring the system meets emerging warfighter needs. Apple Investors Reject Proposal to End Diversity Initiatives
Apple shareholders have voted against a proposal that would have pressured the tech giant to abandon its diversity programs, aligning with a broader push by Donald Trump to eliminate such initiatives. The proposal, put forward by the National Center for Public Policy Research, urged Apple to follow the example of other prominent companies that have scaled back their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, which are currently under scrutiny by the Trump administration. Following a short presentation on the anti-DEI proposal, Apple announced its rejection by shareholders, with the specific vote count to be detailed in a regulatory filing later that day. This outcome supports Apple management’s commitment to diversity, even amidst calls from Trump for the Justice Department to investigate potential discrimination against employees whose race or gender may not align with DEI goals. CEO Tim Cook has maintained a positive relationship with Trump, which has helped Apple avoid tariffs on iPhones made in China. After a recent meeting between Cook and Trump, Apple announced plans to invest significantly in the U.S. and create 20,000 new jobs over the next five years, a move praised by the president. The shareholder vote occurred a month after a similar proposal was overwhelmingly rejected at Costco’s annual meeting, also presented by the same group. Despite the Costco rejection, the National Center for Public Policy Research proceeded with its presentation to Apple, with Stefan Padfield, executive director of the Free Enterprise Project, arguing that “forced diversity is bad for business.” Padfield argued that Apple's diversity commitments contradict recent court rulings and expose the company to potential discrimination lawsuits, citing the Trump administration as a possible adversary. Padfield stated that the trend is shifting away from DEI and towards merit-based systems. The potential for legal challenges was highlighted by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier's lawsuit against Target, alleging that the retailer's scaled-back DEI program alienated consumers and negatively impacted sales, harming shareholders. Like Costco, Apple argues that a diverse workforce is beneficial for business. Cook acknowledged that Apple may need to adjust its diversity program in response to evolving legal changes, while maintaining a culture that has contributed to its $3.7 trillion market value. “We will continue to create a culture of belonging,” Cook told shareholders. In its , Apple reported that approximately three-quarters of its global workforce is composed of white and Asian employees, with nearly two-thirds being men. For years, other major tech companies have reported similar demographics, with predominantly white and Asian men in high-paying engineering roles. This has prompted the industry to pursue diversity initiatives, though with limited success. ```
Supreme Court Vacates Richard Glossip’s Murder Conviction and Death Sentence
` tags. The Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned the murder conviction and death sentence of Richard Glossip, an Oklahoma man who has consistently claimed he is innocent and avoided multiple execution attempts by the state. The justices determined that Glossip’s trial infringed upon his constitutional rights. The justices heard arguments in October in a case that resulted in an unusual alignment where Glossip's lawyers and the state both contended that the high court should reverse Glossip's conviction and death sentence due to an unfair trial. The victim's family informed the high court of their desire to see Glossip executed. Oklahoma’s highest criminal court had consistently upheld Glossip’s conviction and sentence, even after the state supported Glossip. Glossip was found guilty and sentenced to death for the 1997 murder of his former boss, motel owner Barry Van Treese, in Oklahoma City. Prosecutors alleged it was a murder-for-hire scheme. Glossip has always asserted his innocence. Justin Sneed confessed to robbing Van Treese and fatally beating him with a baseball bat, but testified that he acted only after Glossip promised him $10,000. Sneed received a life sentence in exchange for his testimony and was the primary witness against Glossip.
Healthy Living Outweighs DNA in Longevity
While predicting one's lifespan is impossible, prioritizing lifestyle and environment over genetics can increase the likelihood of a long and healthy life. This is the key finding of a study published in Nature Medicine, which leans heavily towards the influence of environment in the nature versus nurture debate. The study utilized data from over 490,000 participants in the , a comprehensive database containing detailed medical information such as gene sequencing, MRIs, blood, urine, and saliva samples, and family health histories. Researchers analyzed this extensive data to determine the impact of genetics and over 100 environmental variables on the risk of 22 major diseases contributing to the leading causes of death. The study especially scrutinized a group of 45,000 individuals whose blood samples underwent proteomic profiling, an analysis of thousands of proteins that help assess physical age in relation to chronological age. According to lead author Austin Argentieri, a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, proteomic profiling allows researchers to estimate an individual's biological aging rate relative to their actual age. The difference between protein-predicted age and chronological age, known as the "proteomic age gap," is a strong indicator of mortality and is closely linked to significant aging traits like frailty and cognitive function. Identifying the age gap is just the first step; understanding its cause is crucial. Researchers examined various environmental and behavioral exposures, including income, neighborhood, employment status, marital status, education, diet, smoking habits, and exercise frequency, to determine their contribution to disease and biological age. On the genetic front, researchers analyzed participants' genomes for genetic markers associated with the 22 key diseases and noted any pre-existing conditions. The results revealed that environment and lifestyle accounted for 17% of the risk of dying from disease, whereas genetics only accounted for 2%. Smoking was identified as the riskiest behavior, linked to 21 diseases, while socioeconomic factors like income, neighborhood, and employment status were associated with 19 diseases, and a lack of physical activity with 17. Environmental factors significantly impacted lung, heart, and liver disease, while genetics primarily influenced the risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers, as well as dementia. The study also indicated that environmental influences begin early in life, with high or low body weight at age 10 and maternal smoking during pregnancy affecting health and mortality decades later. Researchers also examined factors that reduce the risk of death from chronic diseases, finding that having a partner, being employed, and financial stability significantly extended lifespan. Cornela van Duijn, professor of epidemiology at Oxford Population Health, stated in a accompanying the paper's release that their research highlights the significant impact of modifiable exposures on health, whether through individual choices or policies aimed at improving socioeconomic conditions, reducing smoking, or promoting physical activity. The researchers plan to continue their work by further investigating factors such as diet, exposure to new pathogens like COVID-19 and bird flu, and environmental elements like plastics and pesticides, which they believe are potentially significant but understudied influences on lifespan.
Unidentified Disease Claims Dozens of Lives in Congo
KINSHASA — According to both local doctors and the World Health Organization (WHO), a yet-to-be-identified illness has caused the deaths of over 50 individuals in the northwestern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Serge Ngalebato, the medical director at Bikoro Hospital, a regional surveillance center, told the Associated Press that a key concern is the rapid progression of the illness, with death occurring within 48 hours of symptom onset in most cases. The current outbreak of the unidentified disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo began on January 21, with 419 cases reported, including 53 fatalities. The WHO Africa office reports that the initial outbreak occurred in Boloko when three children consumed a bat and died within two days, exhibiting symptoms consistent with hemorrhagic fever. There have been long-standing concerns about the transmission of diseases from animals to humans, particularly in regions where the consumption of wild animals is common. The WHO reported in 2022 that the number of such outbreaks in Africa has increased by over 60% in the past decade. Following a second outbreak of the mysterious illness in Bomate on February 9, the WHO stated that samples from 13 cases have been dispatched to the National Institute for Biomedical Research in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, for laboratory analysis. Testing has ruled out Ebola and other typical hemorrhagic fever diseases such as Marburg. Some samples tested positive for malaria. Last year, a different unidentified flu-like illness that resulted in dozens of deaths in another region of Congo was ultimately attributed to suspected cases of malaria. ```
Musk Grants Federal Workers a Second Chance After Initial Email Response Deadline
Federal employees who didn't respond to Elon Musk's request last week to detail their job accomplishments won't face immediate repercussions, despite the initial ultimatum of potential firing. While President Trump reportedly supported Musk's demand, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) clarified to agency heads that responding wasn't mandatory. Musk indicated on X that he plans to reissue the directive with mandatory compliance. He stated that, pending presidential approval, non-responders will get a second chance, with termination as the consequence for further non-compliance. Musk expressed frustration over the lack of response to what he considered a simple request, blaming managers for encouraging resistance. Reportedly, several departments like , , and encouraged employees to comply, but others resisted, seemingly attempting to regain control over their staff from Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. HHS staff were informed that there was "no HHS expectation" to respond and that their jobs were secure regardless. They were also advised to protect sensitive information if they chose to respond, warning that foreign actors might read their submissions. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard reportedly instructed intelligence community officers not to respond, citing the sensitive nature of their work, according to the New York Times. The also advised its employees to delay responding. Darin Selnick, acting under secretary of Defense for personnel and readiness, stated the department would conduct performance reviews internally and respond to OPM on behalf of its workforce "when and if required," according to a statement shared on X. Director Kash Patel issued a similar directive, asserting the bureau's authority over review processes and promising adherence to FBI procedures. Tibor Nagy, an undersecretary at the State Department, informed staff that employees weren't obligated to report activities outside their chain of command, and the department would respond collectively. The Department of reportedly issued similar guidance. The 's top administrative official, Jolene Ann Lauria, announced that employees "do not need to respond to the email from OPM", reversing earlier instructions amid internal confusion, according to . Musk’s email directive has faced bipartisan regarding potential illegality and overreach. As many as employees—including personnel like Library of Congress staff and judges—may have received the directive, according to the Washington Post. Per , responses are expected to be analyzed using AI. House Speaker Mike Johnson defended Musk's action, stating that taxpayers deserve accountability from public employees and that routine performance reports are common in the private sector. Musk a video of Johnson's comments, reiterating his justification of "fair rules for all" between public and private sectors.

Macron’s Subtly Correcting Trump Highlights Push for Ukraine Peace
President Macron sees himself as someone who can influence Trump. During his visit to the White House on Monday, he carefully managed his interactions with President Trump, using phrases like "thank you" and "Dear Donald." He expressed gratitude to Trump for accommodating him on short notice and subtly corrected him on a major global issue. Macron's urgent trip to Washington aimed to bridge the growing divide between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, hoping to revitalize negotiations to end Putin's invasion. European leaders are concerned about Trump's criticism of Zelensky and his shift towards Moscow. The U.S. recently joined Russia, North Korea, and Iran in opposing a UN resolution condemning Russia's actions in Ukraine. Trump has recently adopted a more aggressive stance towards long-standing U.S. allies, suggesting the U.S. should acquire Greenland from Denmark and that Canada should become the 51st state. He also expressed his desire for a swift ceasefire agreement between Ukraine and Russia, but stated that the U.S. would not continue aiding Ukraine without compensation. "Our administration is making a decisive break with the foreign policy failures of the past administration," Trump stated on Monday. Trump has suggested that Ukraine should concede rights to its valuable rare earth minerals, arguing that U.S. taxpayers "deserve to recoup the colossal amounts of money that we sent" in military aid over the last three years. However, Macron aimed to create a different perception. Standing beside Trump, he stated, "I think that no one in this room wants to live in a world where it’s the law of the strongest and international borders can be violated from one day to the next.” This statement disregarded Trump's recent comments that seemed to describe such a world. Macron's strategy was intended to keep the fragile peace talks progressing. Despite some international criticism of Trump's proposal regarding Ukraine's rare earth minerals, Macron views it as a means of maintaining Trump's, and therefore the U.S.'s, involvement in defending Ukraine, even if motivated by its resources. Macron mentioned that Zelensky would visit Washington soon to discuss the rare earth minerals deal, calling it a "very important step forward" and a "turning point" towards U.S. involvement in a peace agreement. Notably, Trump made no promises regarding Ukraine or European security during the press conference. Instead, Macron took it upon himself to speak for the U.S., stating that any violation of a potential peace agreement by Russia would put it in conflict with "everyone involved in the peace process." Macron also praised the "deterrence capacity on the American side" against Russian aggression. This deterrence has historically been based on 75 years of U.S. commitments through NATO to defend Europe from a Russian invasion. However, Trump remained silent on these commitments on Monday. The unusual dynamic between Trump and Macron began earlier in the day during a meeting in the Oval Office. When Trump claimed that European nations had only loaned funds to Ukraine and would be "getting their money back," Macron gently corrected him, saying, "No, to be frank, we paid. We paid 60% of the total effort." Bradley Bowman of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies suggests that the U.S.'s changed stance on Ukraine under Trump, compared to the Biden administration, has strengthened Russia's negotiating position and its ability to threaten Europe. "I worry that this administration, despite its good intentions to try to end the conflict, has undermined its own negotiating position in a way that we may regret," Bowman says. ```
