PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso urged on Thursday, March 31, 2022, his fellow candidate, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., to pay the P23 billion worth of unpaid estate taxes of his family.“Pagbigyan natin si attorney. Bayaran mo na ‘yung P23 billion. Oh, attorney, final na pala, eh,” Moreno said in a campaign rally in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro.“Gamitin namin pambayad sa ano, pang-ayuda natin sa mga farmers, bili tayo ng mga fertilizers, iayuda natin sa mga driver ng jeep, bus, taxi, grab, tricycle, kasi hirap na hirap sila,” he added. This is in response to the statement of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas general counsel George Briones that the Supreme Court ruled with finality in 1997 that the clan owed P23 billion in estate tax and that it only ballooned to P203 billion due to penalties and surcharges over the years that it was left unpaid.Briones said the P180 billion worth of penalties are still subject to reconciliation.Aksyon Demokratiko, which was chaired by Domagoso, was first to publicize a document from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) demanding the Marcoses to pay their estate taxes. In response, Marcos earlier said there were a lot of “fake news” regarding their family’s wealth.Domagoso said he is elated to know that he is not fake news after the Briones admission.“Whether P23 billion or P203 billion based on final assessment, what matters most is may P23 billion kang dapat bayaran. At inamin mo na, na dapat bayaran. Tanong, bayaran mo na ngayon. Kailangan ng bansa ng pera,” he said.“Pangalawa, ang dami mong pera. Biruin mo buwis mo pa lang P23 billion na, paano pa kaya ‘yung natira? I mean, be honest to yourself. But anyway, that’s your problem not mine. Someday, magbabayad talaga kayo,” he added.
