PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed former Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force director retired general Moro Virgilio Lazo as the new director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Office of the Press Secretary Officer-In-Charge Cheloy Garafil confirmed the appointment on Thursday evening, October 20.

Lazo will be replacing Wilkins Villanueva in leading the agency, which spearheads the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.

He also took the helm of the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office and was a member of the Presidential Security Group during the administration of former president Fidel V. Ramos.

In a Facebook post, Villanueva said he was grateful for the two decades of public service in the field of drug law enforcement.

“I shall leave behind a legacy of Professional, Dynamic, Excellence-Driven and Accountable drug law enforcers while I continue to support the national anti-drug campaign in my private capacity,” Villanueva said. (SunStar Philippines)
