AS THE country continues to make a push to increase coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine and booster shot coverages, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Friday, August 26, 2022, assured that churches shall remain open to serving as vaccination sites. In a radio interview, CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Health Care Executive Secretary Fr. Dan Cancino said churches and other places of worship remain available to be tapped by local government units as vaccination sites.”Our churches continue to participate in making Covid-19 vaccines accessible, especially in areas with low vaccination accomplishments,” said Cancino.”We will continue to open church spaces to allow our faithful to avail Covid-19 vaccines,” he furthered.Aside from making church establishments available, the priest said they will also continue to help in informing the public on the benefits of getting jabbed.”We are also putting a premium on increasing vaccine confidence and lowering the hesitancy towards Covid-19 vaccines,” said Cancino. As of August 22, Department of Health data shows that almost 72.4 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.More than 17.7 million individuals have also received their first booster doses. However, the Marcos administration’s bid to administer 23 million booster shots in its first 100 days remains a far-fetched target. This as only 1,920,131 have been boosted under the “PinasLakas” campaign, or just 8.3 percent of the target number.
