Polish defense officials confirmed on Monday that they intercepted drones that had intruded into the nation’s airspace.

Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk announced on X that an operation was in progress to “neutralize objects that have violated and exceeded the border.”

Tomczyk further stated that “The state authorities, specifically the President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, have been informed.”

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that the Polish military maintained “constant contact with command.”

On X, Kosiniak-Kamysz also confirmed that “The Territorial Defense Forces have been mobilized for ground searches to locate downed drones.” He urged the public “to remain calm and only disseminate information from military and state services, and in the event of encountering any object fragments, not to approach them but to immediately notify the police.”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk indicated that he was in “constant communication with the President and Minister of Defense” and had received a “direct report from the operational commander.”

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces attributed the drone incursion into its airspace to an ongoing attack by Russian forces on neighboring Ukraine.

On X, the Command stated, “An unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects occurred as a result of the Russian Federation’s attack on Ukrainian territory.” They added, “This constitutes an act of aggression that posed a genuine threat to the safety of our citizens.”

The Operational Command reported activating “defensive procedures” and, with the support of the Polish Armed Forces, “made decisions to neutralize those that could pose a threat.”

The Command confirmed, “Some of the drones that penetrated our airspace were brought down. Operations are currently underway to locate and identify the potential crash sites of these objects.” It concluded by stating, “The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces continues to monitor the situation, and both Polish and allied forces and assets are maintained at full readiness for any further necessary actions.”
