Johor Bahru, Johor May 4, 2024 – surfactor Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of surfactor Germany GmbH, a 75-year-old world market leader for technical surfaces, today ‘Switched-On’ the Solar Energy supply for its plant in Johor which is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 9,565 tonnes over the course of 20 years.
The project was delivered by Solar Galactic (M) Sdn. Bhd. (SOGA), a homegrown energy solutions provider with extensive expertise in industrial energy management.
The event was inaugurated by YB Datuk Seri Utama IR Hasni bin Mohammad, Sustainability Committee Chairman for the state of Johor who enthused, “I would like to commend surfactor Asia Pacific for their commitment to sustainability as proven through today’s solar implementation for their production needs. We need more players like them with local providers like SOGA to partner and materialise clean energy projects for a better future.”
“This RM2.5 million clean energy investment for our Malaysian plant is a sign of our commitment to our host country. The mixed energy move is a sustainability delivery measure in addition to responsible sourcing and production methodologies that we have adopted in alignment with our headquarters vision,” shared Mr. Franc Molto, Managing Director of surfactor Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd.
The project included solar installation on 2,688 square metre of roof space alongside the installation of 27 solar powered street lights delivering 20% solar energy to the overall energy demand of the plant annually. This translates to an estimated RM412,872.00 savings on the energy bill per annum with a payback timeline within 5 years taking into consideration the government incentives and rebates in support of RE adoption.
In addition to embracing Renewable Energy (RE), surfactor Asia Pacific will also implement Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) driven Energy Efficiency (EE) solutions to monitor solar energy generation, CO2 Emission levels to monitor reduction, measuring and managing energy usage to reduce wastage, total energy usage reporting and immediate energy safety alerts for its facility.
“We have received great support from the Government of Malaysia through its agencies like Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Energy Commission of Malaysia (EC), Sustainability Energy Development Authority (SEDA) and are proud to be contributors to the nation’s RE and EE goals through the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR),” added Mr. Molto.
SOGA is the delivery partner for this project and was represented by its Chairman, Datuk Rosman bin Mohamed who shared, “We hope more industrial players in Malaysia step up like surfactor Asia Pacific to add solar energy into their energy mix as a first step towards realising the renewable energy dream.
Making the switch to RE is not only a cost saving measure but also offers energy diversity and reduces CO2 emissions among other benefits for the nation. The Government has set a functional plan that includes rebates and tax exemptions so industrial players should leverage on Malaysia’s bountiful sun and supportive systems to include more clean energy to fulfil their operational energy needs,”.
“Our commitment for operational sustainability is further extended through our social responsibility measures which included Mangrove planting in collaboration with RAMSAR Convention and Soroptomist International (Iskandar Puteri Chapter) at Tanjung Piai in Johor. Government, industrial, commercial and social eco systems must function together for us to achieve Sustainability Development Goals as outlined by the United Nations and we are honoured to do our part for the greater good,” Mr. Molto concluded.
