JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla maintained on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, that he will not step down from post amid concerns following the arrest of his son over illegal drug charges.

Remulla said the only time he will consider resigning is if he feels that he is no longer effective in the position.

“It will not happen. I will not comment anymore on the other issues there, but it will not happen,” he said in a press conference.

“That is not my call. I am a very honorable person when it comes to this. It is the President’s call,” he added.

Remulla said he spoke with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as soon as he arrived in the country from Geneva last Thursday, October 13, 2022.

He said Marcos told him that he commiserates with his plight as a parent and that he should already go back to work.

On Tuesday, October 11, anti-narcotics operatives arrested Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, the Justice secretary’s eldest son, during a controlled delivery operation in Las Piñas City.

He received a parcel, which was found to be containing more or less 937 grams of high-grade marijuana, commonly known as kush, with an estimated value of P1,311,800.

He was charged with violation of importation of dangerous drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and violation of Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Marcos earlier said that the calls for Remulla’s resignation had no basis.

The older Remulla reiterated that he will stay away from the case. He refused to comment on claims that his son was receiving special treatments.

“I haven’t talked to him since the beginning actually. I stayed away from the case. I have not talked to anybody. I have not asked anybody any favor. I just talked to a cousin of mine who is a lawyer who will represent him,” he said.

“That is everything I have to do with the case, I have nothing to do with the case,” he added.

Remulla said he told lawyers that any resolution in relation to his son’s case should not reach the Department of Justice as it should go straight to the courts for trial. (SunStar Philippines)
