THE case on the killing of veteran radio broadcaster Percy Lapid (real name Percival Mabasa) is now considered “solved,” said National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Southern Police District Director Kirby John Kraft said.

Kraft made the declaration following the identification and filing of charges against those involved in the killing.

But he said the investigation is ongoing.

“We have solved the case because we already identified the suspects and we have at least one in custody and we filed cases against them. But we are still continuing the investigation,” Kraft said.

“But as far as we are concerned, the case has been solved,” he added.

Last week, Joel Escorial surrendered to the police and admitted that he served as the gunman in the incident.

Escorial also identified three of his cohorts — Edmon and Israel Dimaculangan and a certain Orly.

Charges of murder have already been filed against them.

He also said that the kill order came from a detainee at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

One of the alleged middlemen, Jun Globa Villamor, died inside the NBP last week due to heart hemorrhage.

The other facilitator, Jose Villamor, Jun’s cousin, has already been secured by the police at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

Police investigation continued to identify the mastermind in the killing of Lapid, who was shot dead on October 3 in Las Piñas City.

“Iba po ‘yung closed, iba po ‘yung solved. Patuloy pa po ‘yung imbestigasyon natin para matukoy natin kung sinong may kagagawan,” Kraft said.

(Closed is differen; resolved is different. Our investigation is still ongoing so that we can determine who is responsible.)

The camp of Lapid, however, maintained that the case remains unsolved since the mastermind is not yet identified. (SunStar Philippines)
