THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is verifying if the persons behind the ambush that killed Aparri, Cagayan Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda were indeed policemen, PNP Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

“So we are still determining itong mga perpetrators are really in the PNP service because apparently, they were using police uniform. So kung sila man ay mga pulis, definitely, we will continue pursuing ‘yung pag-iimbestiga and we will apply the full force of the law. Kailangan ay maparusahan sila to the maximum,” he said in an interview with reporters in Manila.

So if they are policemen, definitely, we will continue pursuing the investigation and we will apply the full force of the law. They must be punished to the maximum.)

“At kung ito ay hindi mga kapulisan, definitely in the same manner, we continue to condemn yun pong very tragic na ginawa sa ating vice mayor

ng Aparri and using the PNP uniform that’s uncalled for because they are tainting the image of the uniformed services,” he added.

Azurin said they are still determining the possible motives in the killing, such as political, business rivalry or personal grudge.

He said investigators already have leads following the recovery of the vehicle used by the perpetrators.

PNP Public Information Office chief Colonel Redrico Maranan earlier said that the red license plate attached to the vehicle used by the perpetrator and which was found to have been burned, was stolen.

He said the license plate was originally assigned to a vehicle currently broken at the compound of Nueva Vizcaya State University.

Alameda was ambushed in Sitio Kinacao, Baretbet on Friday morning, February 17.

Also killed were Alexander Agustin Delos Angeles, Alvin Dela Cruz Abel, Abraham Dela Cruz Ramos, John Duane Banag Almeda and Ismael Nanay. (SunStar Philippines)
