PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Guillermo Eleazar has ordered the dismissal of a policeman tagged in the killing of a businessman and another who was arrested in a drug bust.

Eleazar said he instructed the Internal Affairs Service to initiate the summary dismissal proceedings against Senior Master Sergeant Bernardo Oriol Jr. from the Manila Police District and Staff Sergeant Manuel Bien, who is assigned to the Police Security Protection Group.

Oriol was tagged as a suspect in the killing of businessman Naiquian Yuan, who was ambushed by motorcycle-riding suspects in Malate, Manila on August 2, 2021.

Oriol and his alleged cohort Shi Shanbang were arrested last August 6 in Binondo, Manila.

“Manila Police District investigators said Oriol’s outfit looked similar to the clothes worn by one of the motorcycle-riding suspects and his motorcycle also matched the description of the one used in the ambush,” said Eleazar.

Bien, on the other hand, was arrested together with suspect Alfie Gomez during a drug bust on August 9.

Gomez pointed to Bien as his source of illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, Eleazar ordered Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Albert Ignatius Ferro to replace all the personnel of the Quezon City Field Unit over allegations that they demanded P3 million in exchange for the release of an arrested businessman.

All CIDG personnel were disarmed and put under restrictive custody while investigation is being conducted.

“Walang lugar sa PNP ang mga ganitong uri ng pulis at makakaasa ang ating mga kababayan ng patuloy na paglilinis sa aming hanay bilang bahagi ng aming intensified cleanliness policy,” said Eleazar.

“Kasabay ng administrative case, sisiguraduhin nating mahaharap sa kasong kriminal ang mga ito,” he added. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
