AROUND 700 kilograms, or P4 billion worth of dangerous drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) were incinerated Thursday, April 27, 2023, in Cavite.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed the drugs and CPECs through thermal decomposition or thermolysis at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. in Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, Cavite.

Through thermal decomposition, the illegal drugs are exposed to temperature of over 1,000 degrees centigrade, causing the drugs to decompose or break down.

The destroyed dangerous drugs and CPECs were seized from various anti-illegal drug operations conducted by PDEA together with other law enforcement units, said PDEA.

The items included methamphetamine hydrochloride locally known as shabu, marijuana, cocaine, MDMA or ecstasy, Meth+Ephedrine, codeine, ephedrine, phentermine and liquid marijuana.

The PDEA is tasked to oversee the destruction of all seized dangerous drugs in compliance with the guidelines set on the custody and disposition of seized dangerous drugs under Section 21, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation 1, Series of 2002.

The activity Thursday, April 27, was also witnessed by representatives from the Department of Justice, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, local officials of Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, and other law enforcement agencies, non-government organizations and media partners.
