MORE than 100,000 workers are expected to immediately benefit once the community restrictions due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic are eased by the national government.

Among them are those who are under flexible work arrangements and those whose companies temporarily closed, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said.

“If the economy is allowed to fully resume already, there will be some 108,000 workers that can resume their five days a week work,” said Tutay.

“In addition, those facing temporary closures can already go back to their jobs,” she added.

As of January 31, a total of 1,617 establishments with 77,356 workers had implemented flexible work arrangements.

There were also 1,182 establishments with 30,733 workers that resorted to temporary closure.

In sum, there were 108,089 workers from 2,799 companies that implemented FWAs and temporary closure from January 1 to 31, 2021. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
