THE Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, reported 140 additional mortalities after verifying that 105 cases tagged as recoveries have succumbed to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The additional mortalities raised the death toll to 26,232 and the case fatality rate to 1.77 percent.

The DOH also reported 3,806 new infections as testing output remained low at 31,987 with a positivity rate of 11 percent.

Five laboratories, which contributed an average of 2.1 percent of the samples tested in the last 14 days and 1.9 percent of the positive results, were not able to report their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on July 12.

The new infections brought the cumulative Covid-19 case count in the country to 1,485,457. Nine duplicates, including eight recoveries, were removed from the count.

Of these cases, 44,408 or 3.0 percent remained active cases in hospitals and isolation facilities nationwide.

The DOH also reported 6,296 recoveries, bringing the total to 1,414,817, or 95.2 percent of the total count. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
