PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Beda Angeles Epres as a new Commission in Human Rights (CHR) commissioner.Epres, a lawyer, will replace commissioner Roberto Eugenio Cadiz. His term will expire on May 5, 2029.In a statement, the CHR welcomed the appointment of Epres.“With the track record of Commissioner Epres, CHR welcomes his expertise and credibility in conducting independent probes which is crucial to human rights protection,” it said.“Aside from focusing on investigations, which touches on CHR’s protection mandate, Commissioner Epres would also like to advance the rights of older persons and children,” it added.Epres is an alumnus of the Far Eastern University (Political Science, 1990) and finished his law degree at the Arellano University School of Law. He was admitted to the Bar in 1995.He started his government service when he became a part of the Office of the Ombudsman in 1997. (SunStar Philippines)
