“Following this morning’s incident at Camp Crame, I will be speaking to Senator De Lima to check on her condition and to ask if she wishes to be transferred to another detention center,” Marcos said in a Twitter post.
In a separate statement, Office of the Press Secretary Undersecretary and Officer-in-Charge Cheloy Garafil said Marcos has directed Camp Crame to enforce all measures necessary to avoid similar incidents not only in Camp Crame but in all jail facilities across the country.
Around 6:30 a.m., three persons under police custody identified as Arnel Cabintoy, Idang Susukan and Feliciano Sulayao attacked a police officer distributing their breakfast. They were trying to escape.
Susukan and Cabintoy were killed by a responding police officer while Sulayao went to De Lima’s cell and tried to hold her hostage.
The incident was immediately contained, which resulted in the death of the three inmates and injury to two policemen.
The police said De Lima was unharmed, but she still underwent a medical examination at the PNP General Hospital.
