JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Wednesday, May 10, 2023, that the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has already issued a notice to track the movement of suspended Negros Oriental Third District representative Arnolfo Teves Jr.

In an interview with reporters, Remulla said Teves could no longer keep his whereabouts secret since there is already an Interpol notice about his movements.

“The blue notice is there actually. What is happening now is we are informed of his movements by all jurisdictions,” he said.

“Once he enters a certain jurisdiction, they already inform us of his movements. That’s why Timor-Leste immediately informed the Philippine government of his presence there,” he added.

The DOJ sought the issuance of an Interpol blue notice against Teves in March over his refusal to return to the country and face the allegations implicating him as the mastermind in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

The color-coded notices, according to the Interpol website, are international requests for cooperation or alerts allowing police in member countries to share critical crime-related information and are issued by the General Secretariat at the request of a member country.

The Blue Notice will enable member countries to collect additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in relation to a criminal investigation.

Teves is reportedly in the capital city of Dili in Timor Leste where his application for political asylum was denied.

Teves was given five days to leave Timor-Leste or file an appeal.

The DOJ is also eyeing to designate Teves as a terrorist over his role in the said murder incident.

The government’s efforts are aimed at making Teves’ world small to force him to come back to the country. (SunStar Philippines)
