THE Philippine National Police (PNP) Internal Affairs Service has asked the commander of Police Station 1 in Mandaue City to explain failure to comply with the cleanliness policy.

IAS inspectors who conducted a surprise inspection at around 2 p.m. on June 26, 2021 and found the police station dirty. Clothes were hung to dry inside the station, garbage bins were not labeled property, and an empty bottle of alcoholic beverage and dog poop were found.

PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar said inspectors also found only a few personnel at the station.

“Only four out of 45 personnel were present for the IAS inspection. According to the IAS, even the station commander was not there at the time of the inspection. The deputy station commander was present, but was observed to be inattentive and could not account for how many personnel were at the police station at the time of inspection,” he said.

“The IAS inspectors also noticed that the desk officer was not properly wearing his face mask and had no face shield,” he added.

Eleazar said this should serve as a warning to all policemen, especially police commanders, to comply with the PNP’s intensified cleanliness policy (ICP).

Under this program, all police precincts and stations must be kept clean and presentable as part of efforts to regain public trust.

“Paano tayo rerespetuhin ng publiko kung ganyan ang madadatnan sa istasyon? Madumi na nga, kulang na kulang pa sa tao. Paano tayo makapagsisilbi ng maayos kung ang simpleng pagpapanatili ng kaayusan sa istasyon ay hindi ninyo magawa?” he said.

SunStar Cebu tried to get the side of Capt. Eric Gingoyon, the station’s police chief, but he refused to comment as the investigation is still ongoing. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines with KFD)
