THE coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) case count in the Philippines reached 2.6 million on Monday, October 4, 2021.

In its case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 10,748 new cases, the lowest since the 10,035 recorded on August 17. Testing also went down to 59,551, with a positivity rate of 20.2 percent.

The new cases brought the total case count in the country to 2,604,040. There were 107 duplicates that were removed from the tally.

The DOH also reported 61 additional deaths and 16,523 new recoveries.

The additional deaths, which included 23 cases previously tagged as recoveries, raised the Covid-19 death toll to 38,828. The case fatality rate remained at 1.49 percent.

Including the new recoveries, a total of 2,459,052 have now recovered from infection.

The number of active cases dropped further to 106,160, lowest since the 105,151 active cases on August 18.

Of this number, 1.2 percent were critical, 2.7 percent were severe, 5.15 percent were moderate, 82.7 percent were mild and 8.3 percent were asymptomatic. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
