THE Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday, February 4, 2021, reported 1,590 new cases of coronavirus infection and 55 additional mortalities from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

These brought the total case count in the Philippines to 531,699 and pushed the death toll closer to 11,000.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, 10,997 had died from Covid-19 in the Philippines.

The case fatality rate (CFR) was higher at 2.07 percent, which was also almost equal to the CFR on August 1, 2020.

There were also 249 additional recoveries on Thursday, bringing the total to 487,927.

Of the total case count, 32,775 or 6.2 percent were active cases.

The National Capital Region (NCR) continued to post the highest number of active cases with 7,391 as of February 3, followed by Calabarzon (3,763) and Central Visayas (2,885).

Other regions with more than 2,000 active cases as of February 3 were Davao Region (2,643), Cordillera (2,129) and Central Luzon (2,119).

In terms of new cases, however, Central Visayas region toppled the NCR from the top spot based on the February 3 situationer report of the DOH.

Central Visayas had 272 new cases while NCR, which has consistently topped the list, had 261 cases.

It was followed by Calabarzon with 244, Davao Region with 192 and Cordillera with 151 new cases.
