THE Department of Health (DOH) has its work cut out for it as far as increasing the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) booster shot coverage is concerned. This, as the country merely has 20 percent booster shot coverage, based on the latest National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) data.Records show that as of July 21, there were only 15,797,385 boosted individuals or 20.23 percent of the 78 million target population.Earlier in the week, the DOH said the Marcos administration has set a target of 23 million booster doses being jabbed during its first 100 days. When added to the current 15.79 million boosted population, there will be around 39 million Filipinos with up to date vaccination.”It (targeting all) is not really realistic for the first 100 days. But, at least, we’re targeting 50 percent,” said DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire in a previous interview. Also, based on the NVOC data, there are already 71,439,759 fully vaccinated individuals in the country. This is 91.47 percent of the target population nationwide.NVOC data also showed 1,146,735 individuals who have received their second booster shots. It must be noted that second booster shots are limited to healthcare workers, senior citizens, and immunocompromised individuals only.
