THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded all national and local candidates that campaigning activities will already be prohibited starting Sunday, May 8, the eve of the May 9 polls.Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the last day of the campaign period is on May 7, Saturday.”Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last day of campaigning. By Sunday, there should be no more campaigning,” he said.Under the Omnibus Election Code, the campaign period should not include the day before and the election day.Campaigning outside of the campaign period is prohibited by law, and shall be considered an election offense.”To those who will defy, be ready to face the full force of the law and the consequences of your illegal acts,” warned Garcia.On Saturday, May 7, all political parties and candidates are expected to hold their respective miting de avance in different parts of the country.According to Garcia, those who will hold their final campaign rallies should strictly adhere to minimum health protocols against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).”Candidates and political parties are strictly enjoined to observe minimum health protocols.
