A DRUG convict from Cebu was killed when he allegedly attacked prison and police officials during an inspection in the maximum security compound of San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

Police identified the suspect as Ronald Natividad, 48, from Barangay Calamba in Cebu City.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Debold Sinas said Thursday, February 4, that authorities shot Natividad after he tried to stab Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) inspector Ave Akilit at around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“Reports said Natividad violently resisted the search and attacked BuCor inspector Ave Akilit with a black foldable knife,” Sinas said.

Akilit then called for help from the police backup team led by Police Major Orlyn Leyte, who rushed inside Dormitory 2.

“Leyte was himself stabbed by Natividad. Fortunately, the knife did not penetrate his body armor,” he added.

Natividad was shot by another member of the team before he can attack the police official again.

The slain convict was serving a life sentence for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
