OVER 38,000 families have been affected by the onslaught of Tropical Cyclone Agaton in the Visayas and Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday, April 10, 2022.The NDRRMC said a total of 38,399 families of 45,588 persons in 106 barangays were affected by the effects of the weather system, especially heavy rain showers that resulted in flooding.Around 67 areas were flooded due to Agaton, the NDRRMC said.It said 3,228 families of 11,264 individuals were currently staying in evacuation centers in Northern Mindanao, Davao, Caraga and Bangsamoro regions.The NDRRMC said 20,613 families also flew and opted to temporarily stay at their relatives’ or friends’ houses.It said they are also validating the cases of one fatality and one missing person amid the onslaught of Agaton.The bureau said 44 houses were initially reported damaged due to the effects of Agaton.In a radio interview, NDRRMC Spokesperson Mark Timbal urged residents in critical areas such as near the shorelines and mountainous areas to evacuate to avoid any untoward incident.“So far, wala pa tayong major untoward incidents na natanggap,” he said.(So far, we have not received any major untoward incidents.)“Meron tayong natanggap, injury lang naman po na nabalita dahil siguro sa pagbaha,” he added.(We did receive a report, it was just an injury due to the flooding.)The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 the southern portion of Eastern Samar (Guiuan, Mercedes, Salcedo, Quinapondan, Giporlos, Balangiga, Lawaan, General Macarthur, Hernani, Llorente, Balangkayan, Maydolong, Borongan City), the southern portion of Samar (Marabut, Basey, Calbiga, Pinabacdao, Villareal, Santa Rita), the northeastern portion of Leyte (Babatngon, Tacloban City, Palo, Tanauan, Tolosa) and northern portion of Dinagat Islands (Loreto and Tubajon).Under TCWS no. 1 were the rest of Eastern Samar, the rest of Samar, Northern Samar, Biliran, the rest of Leyte, Southern Leyte, the northeastern portion of Cebu (Daanbantayan, Medellin, Bogo City, Tabogon, Borbon), including Camotes Islands and Surigao del Norte and the rest of Dinagat Islands.
