(UPDATED) FIVE rescuers died in San Miguel, Bulacan during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding (Noru), Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando said on Monday, September 26, 2022.In a television interview, Fernando said the victims who were identified as Narciso Calayag, Jerson Resurecion, Marvy Bartolome, George Agustin and Troy Justin Agustin, all members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), were conducting rescue operations in Barangay Camias around 7 p.m. when they were hit by a wall that fell due to flashflood.“While conducting rescue (yesterday evening, September 25) nakasakay sila sa truck, ngayon nasira ‘yung truck, nakuha nilang mag-bangka, while nagsasagwan sila, ayon doon sa mga taong nandoon, bumulagnos yung pader due to flashflood at tinamaan sila at natangay na sila ng tubig,” he said.Fernando said assistance will be provided to the bereaved families of the victims.The governor said he convened the concerned units as early as Sunday morning in anticipation of the effects of Karding.He ordered the preemptive evacuation of families in geohazard areas.Fernando said over 2,000 families were currently in evacuation centers across the province particularly in the municipalities of Doña Remedios Trinidad, San Miguel, San Ildefonso, San Rafael and Obando, which were badly battered by Karding.He said floods were still high in these areas along with several villages in the municipalities of Angat, Hagonoy, Balagtas and Bocaue.
