THE Philippines’ Covid-19 cases continued to go down, with the Department of Health (DOH) reporting over 2,303 infections Tuesday, November 2, the lowest in eight months.

It was on March 3 this year when the country logged 1,783 Covid-19 cases.

The DOH data also showed that the country’s positivity rate went down to 6.8 percent from Monday’s (November 1) 7.5 percent. The government targets a positivity rate of five percent below, as per recommendation of the World Health Organization.

The 2,303 new cases Tuesday brought the country’s total confirmed cases to 2,792,656, with 40,786 active infections (1.5 percent).

The number of patients who have recovered from the disease also went up, with 4,677 new recoveries that brought the total to 2,708,466. This means that 97 percent of Covid-19 patients have recovered, said the DOH.

The death toll, however, also increased with 128 new deaths, bringing the total number of mortalities to 43,404 (1.55 percent) as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, November 2.

The health department maintained, however, that majority or 71.2 percent of those who contracted the virus have experienced mild symptoms of Covid-19, while 5.1 percent were asymptomatic.

Moderate cases account for 13.02 percent, while 7.5 percent were severe and 3.2 percent were critical.

The DOH said eight laboratories were again not able to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System, although all laboratories were operational on October 31.

It added that based on the data gathered in the past 14 days, the eight non-reporting laboratories contributed more or less 1.2 percent of the samples tested and 1.0 percent of all individuals who tested positive.

The government continued to call on the public to remain vigilant despite the decrease in the number of daily infections.

President spokesperson Harry Roque advised the public on Tuesday, November 2, to continue to observe the health protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He said while data showed the decrease in Covid-19 cases in the country, everyone still has to be very careful and not think that the pandemic is over.

He also encouraged those who have not been vaccinated yet to submit themselves for vaccination to help the country achieve herd community by the end of 2021. (LMY)
