TWO policemen were killed and another was wounded in a shooting incident at the Manila Headquarters Police (MPD) headquarters on Friday, June 25, 2021.
A report from the MPD identified the fatalities as Police Executive MSgt. Reynante Dimasupil, who was also the gunman, and Police Executive MSgt. Romeo Cantal.
Police Staff Sergeant Reynaldo Coldova was wounded.
The MPD report said Dimasupil, who was drunk, destroyed the door to the office of the MPD Police Intelligence Operation Unit at around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
He grabbed an M-16 firearm, but it jammed. He got hold of a Galil 5.56mm rifle and fired seven shots upwards.
He also fired successive shots towards the Office of the Director of the MPD Drug Enforcement Unit and Office of the District Director.
The officer of duty at the office of MPD Director Leo Francisco fired back at Dimasupil, who ran out of bullets and tried to escape.
On his way to the exit, Dimasupil encountered Cantal who asked him to surrender. Instead of heeding Cantal, Dimasupil fired using his service firearm.
Dimasupil and Cantal were both declared dead at the Manila Doctors Hospital. Investigation is ongoing. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
