7dd2a73368366a9190dfdeeca7fba97c Alfa Laval launches new fuel supply solution utilizing cryogenic technology for LNG-powered vessels

LUND, Sweden, Dec. 16, 2025Alfa Laval has introduced a new fuel-conditioning module (FCM) that readies Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for smooth operation in marine engines. This module expands Alfa Laval’s alternative fuel offerings, incorporating cryogenic technology to provide a comprehensive and dependable fuel supply solution for vessel operators using LNG.

The FCM LNG system’s launch highlights Alfa Laval’s dedication to delivering solutions across the full range of alternative fuels. As shipping works toward decarbonization, LNG has established itself as a bridge fuel, providing a practical way to cut emissions now while infrastructure for alternatives like methanol and ammonia remains in development.

The LNG fuel supply system incorporates advanced cryogenic technology, which is new to Alfa Laval following its recent purchase of French firm Fives Energy Cryogenics. This positions Alfa Laval to offer a high-performance solution that allows customers to implement LNG as a marine fuel efficiently and safely.

“Fuel transition is central to our product development, and shipowners have shown strong demand for solutions enabling this change over the past five years. Our customers are actively future-proofing their operations, and this trend is gaining speed. LNG remains the maritime industry’s primary alternative fuel, and through advanced cryogenic technology, we can supply a highly dependable system that delivers real value and meets the growing market requirements for LNG adoption,” stated Martijn Bergink, President of Marine Division, Alfa Laval.

With proven technologies for methanol and LPG alongside cutting-edge developments in ammonia, Alfa Laval stands ready to assist shipowners and shipyards with any fuel strategy, strengthening its role as a vital technology partner on the path to decarbonization.

Initial test benches for the FCM LNG are scheduled for delivery in 2026, with the complete system available for marine deployment in 2027.
