At least five individuals were killed and more than a dozen others were injured following an attack by a group of assailants in Jerusalem on Monday morning, paramedics reported.

The shooting unfolded at a bustling intersection in East Jerusalem, along a road that leads to Jewish settlements.

According to Israeli media, two attackers boarded a bus and began firing. Paramedics specified that 15 people were wounded, with six in serious condition.

Police stated that the two attackers were “neutralized” soon after the gunfire commenced, but have not yet disclosed further details about their identities.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene described a chaotic area covered in broken glass, with wounded and unconscious individuals lying on the roadway and a sidewalk near the bus stop.

This deadly attack occurs as the ongoing conflict in Gaza approaches two years since the October 7th massacre. The war in Gaza has triggered an escalation of violence throughout the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Israel. Palestinian militants have attacked and killed Israelis in both Israel and the West Bank, alongside a documented increase in settler violence against Palestinians.

A post on X from the official account of the Israeli Prime Minister indicated that he “is now holding an assessment with the heads of the security establishment following the attack in Jerusalem.”
