President issued a threat to deploy “the ‘troops’” to Baltimore in an extensive social media message on Sunday, aimed at Maryland’s Democratic Governor, Wes Moore.
This threat followed an invitation from Moore, who had asked the President to participate in an event in Baltimore after Trump’s recent activities.
“As President, I would significantly prefer that he address this Crime disaster before I visit there for a ‘walk,’” Trump stated in an extensive post on social media.
“However, should Wes Moore require assistance, similar to Gavin Newscum in L.A., I will deploy the ‘troops,’ a measure currently underway in neighboring D.C., and swiftly resolve the Crime issue,” he further stated.
Moore promptly responded with his comments aimed at the president.
“President Bone Spurs will go to any length to avoid walking – even if it entails spreading more falsehoods regarding the strides we’re making in public safety across Maryland,” he posted on X.
“Hey Donald, we can provide you with a golf cart if that simplifies matters. Simply inform my team,” he concluded.
Trump’s threat follows almost two weeks after he mobilized the National Guard and initiated actions in Washington, D.C., as part of what his administration described as a crime crackdown.
In June, the President dispatched personnel and the Marines to Los Angeles, ostensibly to suppress demonstrations against his administration’s immigration policies and an increase in deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Trump’s warning about sending troops to Baltimore is part of a pattern of similar threats targeting Democratic-led cities nationwide, which the Trump Administration frames as an effort to curb crime.
Upon announcing the federal intervention in Washington, D.C., Trump declared: “This initiative will extend further.”
“We intend to reclaim our capital … and subsequently, we will consider other cities as well,” he stated, specifically mentioning Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore, and Oakland.
The President informed reporters on Friday that Chicago was his next target, saying: “Once we accomplish this, we will move to another location and ensure its safety too.”
“Chicago is in disarray. It has an incompetent mayor, utterly incompetent, and we will rectify that situation, likely next.”
Trump has started utilizing the potential deployment of National Guard troops as a tool to retaliate against his Democratic detractors. His dispute with Moore seemingly originated from Moore’s critique of Trump’s intervention in Washington, D.C.
In his letter inviting Trump to Baltimore, Moore conveyed that public safety held personal significance for him because he “was raised in and near communities neglected by those in authority, who aimed to exploit the suffering of their constituents with empty rhetoric that never altered the actual situation.”
“Statewide homicides in Maryland have decreased by 20% since my inauguration two and a half years ago. During the initial six months of 2025, the Baltimore Police Department observed continued double-digit declines in gun violence, encompassing a 22% drop in homicides and a 19% reduction in non-fatal shootings compared to the previous year. We are currently on course to record the lowest number of homicides in Baltimore City since official crime statistics began being maintained,” he further stated.
Trump replied in his post that “Wes Moore’s track record on Crime is exceptionally poor, unless he manipulates his crime figures as many other ‘Blue States’ are doing,” offering no evidence to support his assertion.
