New Delhi, Delhi Aug 24, 2025  – Significant modifications have been announced by the Department of Home Affairs regarding the English language requirements for the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) visa. These adjustments are scheduled to commence on September 13, 2025, and are designed to enhance fairness and flexibility for skilled foreign workers.

Adhering to the Vocational English standard, the new regulations expand the array of accepted English tests. Individuals who undertake these examinations on or after the specified date must achieve at least the following scores:

A minimum score of 5 is required in each of the four skills

– IELTS: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

– PTE Academic: 33 in listening, 36 in reading, 29 in writing, and 24 in speaking.

– Listening: 8, Reading: 8, Writing: 9, Speaking: 14

– OET, CELPIP General, LanguageCert Academic, and MET are now also recognized examinations, each with its own specific score prerequisites.

However, effective from the implementation date, the Cambridge C1 Advanced test will no longer be accepted for this visa category.

English tests completed prior to September 13, 2025, will remain valid for a period of up to three years, allowing their use under the existing rules.

These changes underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent skilled migration system.
