Lana Nathe, Founder and Principal Designer at Light Insight Design Studio Inc. in Boston, encountered a distinct lighting challenge at the Harvard Alumni Club. She was tasked with illuminating a nine-foot painting and first explored ceiling-mounted or direct wall-mounted lighting. Nevertheless, architectural constraints rendered both options impractical. The sole available resource was an existing wall outlet box with a standard switch—the starting point for an innovative solution.
“Light reveals shape, surface, and color; it shapes our individual perception and offers a shared language. Art flourishes when seen in its truest form through light. Excellent lighting should seamlessly integrate, avoiding distracting hot spots and scallops,” commented Lana Nathe.
Lana Nathe specifically collaborated with The Lighting Quotient to create this bespoke lighting solution, attracted by the company’s renown for achieving exceptional uniform wall-wash performance. In contrast to typical art lights, which provide a standard 180-degree distribution—often illuminating only the upper part of a piece—The Lighting Quotient’s artZi fixture guarantees even, full-surface illumination that enhances the artwork’s true color and texture. artZi seamlessly combines aesthetic form with practical function, featuring energy efficiency, straightforward installation, and a lockable aiming mechanism for accurate light positioning, making it an optimal selection for galleries, museums, and upscale residential or commercial settings.
“We identified a demand to improve existing art lighting, which often causes glare, hotspots, and inconsistent illumination, to better meet the specific requirements of lighting art. artZi empowers designers and curators by illuminating art in a manner that offers viewers an unparalleled visual experience,” stated Allie Schieffelin, CEO, at The Lighting Quotient.
