ACTOR-comedian Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro has been detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) since Monday, September 19, 2022, over rape charges filed by model Deniece Cornejo, his legal counsel said Tuesday, September 20.In a radio interview, lawyer Alma Mallonga said Navarro was put behind bars following the issuance of another arrest warrant against him on Monday afternoon, September 19, over rape charges. The order was issued by the Taguig City Regional Trial Court Branch 69 at 4 p.m., hours after another court issued him an arrest warrant over charges of acts of lasciviousness, prompting Navarro to surrender to the NBI.The court recommended a P36,000 bail for the acts of lasciviousness case, while the rape charge was non-bailable.Mallonga expressed dismay as they were not given a copy of the second warrant nor a court resolution on the filing of rape charges against Navarro. She said they will secure a copy of such for the filing of a motion for reconsideration, as well as petition for bail.In July, the Court of Appeals (CA) reversed the 2018 and 2020 ruling of the Department of Justice (DOJ), which junked the cases filed by Cornejo against Navarro in 2014.It ordered the refiling of the rape and acts of lasciviousness charges against Navarro. The rape case is in relation to the January 17, 2014 incident where Cornejo accused Navarro of raping her inside her condominium unit at the Bonifacio Global City. The filing of acts of lasciviousness stemmed from the January 22, 2014 incident where Cornejo claimed that Navarro tried to rape her, also inside her condominium unit. The incident resulted in the mauling of Navarro by Cornejo’s friends, who were later convicted of grave coercion and sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment along with the model.A case of serious illegal detention against Cornejo and her friend was still pending in court.
