A FIRST year college student was killed, while four others were wounded after an unmanned delivery truck rammed into them inside the Cavite State University (CSU) on Monday morning, January 23, 2023.

Indang Police Director Major Edward Cantano said based on initial investigation, the driver, Frederico Bakula, parked the truck inside the school to deliver drinking water around 10 a.m. Monday.

“Sabi ng drayber dahil walang handbrake ito, ikinambyo nya ng reverse pero noong pagbaba nila ng tubig, nakita na lang niya tumakbo (‘yung truck)… nabangga ‘yung limang estudyante,” he said.

(The driver said because the truck didn’t have a handbrake, he changed it to reverse but when they lowered the water, he just saw it (the truck) running, hitting the five students.)

Cantano said the victims, who were all biology students, were reviewing for their upcoming final examinations when the incident happened.

One of them, a female student, died on the spot, while the others were rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

In a statement, the CSU said it is deeply saddened by the incident.

It assured that it will provide necessary assistance to the victims and their families.

The university encouraged everyone to refrain from sharing and posting unverified information and photos that may cause secondary trauma. (SunStar Philippines)
