FOUR out of 10 respondents in the recent survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said their quality of life worsened as compared to their life a year ago.The SWS said 24 percent of the respondents said their life got better (gainers), while 36 percent said it stayed the same from 12 months before.The resulting Net Gainers score, or the percentage of Gainers minus the percentage of Losers, is -16, which was classified by SWS as mediocre.“The December 2021 Net Gainer score is 28 points up from the extremely low (of) -44 in September 2021, but still 34 points below the pre-pandemic level of the very high +18 in December 2019,” the SWS said in a statement.“The 28-point rise in the national Net Gainer score between September 2021 and December 2021 was due to improvements in all areas, especially in Metro Manila and Mindanao,” it added.As compared to the survey conducted during the third quarter of 2021, gainers in Metro Manila increased by 40 points from catastrophic -51 to mediocre -11.In Mindanao, net gainers went up by 32 points, in Visayas by 15 points and in Luzon 30 points.“Compared to September 2021, Net Gainers eased from extremely low to mediocre among non-elementary graduates, up by 27 points from -46 to -19. It eased from catastrophic to mediocre among elementary graduates, up by 33 points from -50 to -17,” the survey bureau said.“It eased from extremely low to mediocre among junior high school graduates, up by 29 points from -46 to -17. It eased from low to fair among college graduates, up by 19 points from -26 to -7,” it added.The National Government started to hold limited face-to-face classes in November 2021.The survey was conducted among 1,440 adults from across the country from December 12 to 16, 2021 when the government slightly eased restrictions amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.Of the respondents who were 18 years old and above, 13 percent was from Metro Manila, 45 percent from Luzon, 19 percent from the Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
