THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed on Sunday, February 26, 2023, Crispin Diego “Ping” Remulla as the new Cavite Seveth District Representative following a special election on Saturday.

In a press conference, Comelec chairman George Garcia announced Remulla’s win with 98,474 votes.

Other candidates for the said post were Jose Angelito Domingo Aguinaldo (independent), former Trece Martires mayor Melencio Loyola De Sagun Jr. (independent), and Michael Angelo Bautista Santos (independent).

De Sagun garnered 46,530 votes, Aguinaldo got 1,610 and Santos got 1,068 votes.

The congressional post was vacated by the winning candidate’s father, Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, after being appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the chief of the Department of Justice shortly after winning in the May 2022 elections.

“Overall, the conduct of a special election here has been very peaceful,” Garcia said in a press conference.

The province’s Seventh District covers the towns of Amadeo, Indang and Tanda and the city of Trece Martires with 355,184 registered voters. (SunStar Philippines)
