THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified six suspects in the ambush that killed two policemen and wounded two others in Maguindanao, PNP chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.Azurin said police personnel were still in the conduct of hot pursuit operations against the suspects.“We already have the identity of the suspects and our personnel are working double time to bring justice to where it should be,” he said in a statement.“We ask for the public to be vigilant in their surroundings and report any suspicious-looking men in their area,” he added.Lieutenant Reynaldo Samson, chief of the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station, and Corporal Salipuden Endab were killed in an ambush in Barangay Kapinpilan on Tuesday morning, August 30.Injured during the incident were Corporals Rogelio Dela Cuesta Jr. and Marc Clint Dayaday.The group was about to serve warrants of arrest for robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons when waylaid by heavily armed suspects.Azurin expressed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved families.“They were fulfilling their duties as law enforcers when confronted with such violent action. Their loyalty to their commitment to serve and protect the nation will be remembered,” Azurin said.Azurin, together with Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., visited the wake of the fallen policemen.Samson and Salipuden were conferred with Medalya ng Kadikalaan for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.Azurin and Abalos also went to check on the condition of Dela Cuesta and Dayaday and awarded them with Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting, Medalya ng Kadikalaan and financial assistance.Their fellow comrade Senior Master Sergeant Reynante Quinalayo, who survived the ambush, was also awarded with the Medalya ng Kadikalaan.
